Interesting last few minutes of discussion in this quoted part of the video. Per Ray McGovern, Iranians, upon joining BRICS, were told by the Russians and the Chinese to not respond too much to an Israel attack unless the Israel attack would cross some lines which even the Pentagon was trying to prevent Israel from crossing. While Ray thinks that the Russians beefed up the Iranian defenses a lot, Scott thinks Iranians are capable of advanced defenses on their own; Scott also describes Iranians tackling the 'Beast of Qandahar' which would be part of the American presence even into Pakistan.
But in the video I shared just above of Prof. Marandi, Iran wanted the US elections to be over before launching a major attack on Israel. Both Ray and Marandi are credible people but of course they are in their respective countries' governments.

After 9/11 and wars against Al-Queda, ISIS etc., U.S. public opinion is strongly against terrorist entities and views Hamas and Hezbollah as such though some may view them as national governments/entities. Hence, public opinion views casualties in Gaza and Lebanon as the cost of eliminating Hamas and Hezbollah. This is how U.S. public viewed wars in Afghanistan and Iraq too - wars to eliminate Al-Queda/Bin Laden and ISIS/Saddam Hussein.
