Bolded part: Respectfully, I disagree. Hitting Haifa/Tel-Aviv was an option five months ago and probably is even easier option now given the preparations done on the Lebanese side and weapons replenished to Hezbollah. But Hezbollah is exercising a strategic restraint, otherwise would fall into Netanyahu's trap to fully bring the Americans into a regional conflict.
But who really knows what's going on with Hezbollah? It is over 5 months now since they started launching (unprovoked but strategically necessary) attacks on Israel so they are not going to back down now. Those attacks have emptied the northern Israeli communities and killed a few Israelis but the price is many more Lebanese/Hezbollah killed. So why would Hezbollah backtrack now?
What is obvious is that the Americans nor the Iranians want an escalation; Israel, as a nation, doesn't want a full war against Hezbollah until it totally subjugates Gaza and Hezbollah doesn't unless Israel is closing to destroying the Gazan resistance--because then Hezbollah knows it is really next.
Add to the mix ideas like the Hezbollah will never act unless Iran itself is attack, also the exodus of the American Aircraft Carrier(s) from the region, which probably was a concession to Iran.
Me thinks the Americans want to dial down the war but Netanyahu has a personal stake in prolonging and deepening the war.
Bottomline is: It will be Iran and America, both who don't want a wider war and they are the ones who will decide how this will go.
Many of us are rightly anguished by the suffering of the Palestinians. But we can't fathom what a regional war will bring to untold millions more if that happens.
PS. I also believe the recent China-led rapprochement between Saudi Arabia and Iran has complicated things much for several parties.

They have postponed it because delay of deliveries from Iran. No worries, a short period of time is needed to ensure that the transferred goodies will not allow Israel to have same aerial control on Lebanon
