Informed Egyptian sources told “#Al-Akhbar”:
The Egyptian forces and their intelligence services monitored initial Israeli movements indicating the possibility that the Israeli army will carry out a military operation in #Rafah, within weeks, although these are still preliminary signals.
The Israelis informed the Egyptians of their intention to storm Rafah, without going into the details of the planned operation.
Egyptian officials confirmed to their Israeli counterparts that a large-scale military operation in Rafah, reaching the Philadelphia axis, is not acceptable to Egypt, and will certainly affect the Camp David Treaty and Egypt’s obligations under it.
Egyptian officials believe that the Israeli army is already carrying out an operation in Rafah. As for its method and depth, these depend on what is agreed upon between Israel and the United States of America, which will be the main subject of discussion for the Israeli delegation that will leave for Washington in a short time.
- An “American vision” put forward by the Americans with the Egyptians, stipulating the implementation of strict border measures between Egypt and the Gaza Strip, on the one hand, and limited and precise Israeli military operations in Rafah, on the other hand.
- Israel has not yet reacted positively to the American proposal.
