The PLAN NA has lost a J-15 … if I m not mistaken it happened at Hainan. The Pilot is safe.

A great image showing the PLANS-16 „Liaoning“ with her deck full of J-15T fighters.
However I‘m a bit surprised we still have seen a J-15T with PL-15 AAM; these are all still PL-12.

There is one analytical viewpoint for you to consider.

In the early stages of modern aircraft carriers, the landing of shipboard fighters on carriers was prone to bomb/missile disengagement due to the massive impact of the landing. This reason led to many serious accidents.
As a result, there was a rule that shipboard fighters had to jettison all unfired munitions before landing on a carrier. ------ This was a huge overhead.

Later, the U.S. responded to this situation by specifically enhancing the structure of the relevant components of the F/A-18 and F-35. This change allowed fighters (with munitions) to land on carriers. However, this is for the general case, in special cases, it is still necessary to discard the unfired munitions to land.

Information released by Chinese official agencies indicates that the J-15 has the ability to land with ammunition. However, similar to the U.S. Navy's situation, in special circumstances, it is still necessary to discard unfired munitions before landing.

The PLA Navy has previously procured a large number of PL-12s and still has a large inventory. Therefore, we speculate that they will prefer to use the PL-12 for non-war patrols with live ammunition, and if intelligence analysis shows that a war is imminent, these J-15Ts will be changed to carry PL-15s.
