Upgrades to Block l and ll

Indonesia signed a Letter of Award with Leonardo for the purchase of the M346F block 20. So the JF-17 will not be acquired by the TNI-AU.

First Nigeria, now Indonesia. Uncle Sam really wants to make sure the Thunder does not find its place in the international market.

The planes are not in the same category of plane, so I would not agree with your assertion of this procurement replacing either the JF17C/J10CE consideration.

Its a trainer. It's competing with k8 karakorum not with thunder

True, its not in same league with Thunder but this procurement shows Indonesia is investing in western systems only. Also they simply can't expand more on types of aircrafts.

I honestly don't understand the indonesian airforce. They are becoming Egyptian airforce ++... adding every other type and becoming a logistic nightmare.

F-16s, SU-30s / 27s, orders for Rafales, KAAN and KF-21s already in place and way too many advance trainers / light combat stuff: BAE Hawk 200, Embraer EMB 314, KAI T-50 and now M346

I don't see J-10s or JF-17s coming in this mix. Apart from few Sukhois its all western stuff.

- Indonesia is off the list i guess.
- Sudan can't do in midst of civil war.
- Iran is impossible due to sanctions & geopolitics.

Still possible potential operators:
- Iraq was genuinely interested but US has overwhelming influence over it's govt's decisions post Saddam. Still possible with Iraq.
- Libya
- Bangladesh

Exactly!

You forgot Argentina. It was done deal. There were extensive rounds of testing and negotiations done by Argentinian airforce and CATIC & PAC. They came multiple times. They even had allocated funds according to some reports but then comes US pressure. Eventually selling them 40 years old F-16s of Danes.

Argentina simply can't even use those old airframes with freedom or can't integrate any Anti-ship / land attack stand off weapon without approvals or anything at all that may threaten US/UK even a bit.

... How on earth Pakistan can sell a military product and that too fighter jets to Iran. US won't approve it and hence sanctions. We even couldn't make a pipeline for gas from Iran in fear of US sanctions. ...
Not in fear of the US but no bank in the world is willing finance it. Pakistan even approached the Chinese banks and they also backed out.

If Iran were get to JF-17 Thunders, it'll probably end up as the biggest user of them with localised production as well.

Iran is the most impossible customer ever. Out of 195 countries, maybe the last one.

Your defense minister himself told that we are on US supplied ventilators and they can switch it off whenever they want. Your govt nominates Trump for nobel peace prize and your PM sing rhymes in Trump's glory at intl stage. On the other hand you think Pak govt can sell fighter jets to Iran the problem is only "financing" LOL! Thanks for the entertainment!

Pakistan cannot even think about this, Imagine we agreed with Iran for gas pipeline. Iran completed construction on its side but we didn't do on our side because US told us to not even think about it. The oil and gas via pipeline would have been extremely cheap for Pakistan. We can't even do this stuff and you think US will stay silent on defense production ?? Where is your ability to process information ? US is hell bent on destroying Iranian military capabilities and you think we are independent enough to face the sanctions?

Secondly, KSA-Pak defense pact isn't against anybody but against Iran. Iran and its affiliates (houthis) are number one threat for KSA. We can never think about supplying weapons to Iran as long as we have defense and economic interests intertwined with KSA.

Lastly, there is no official confirmation that Iran is even interested at all. There's no authenticity of your cooked up story that Pakistan even approached chinese banks.

It's not just any trainer, it is of the LIFT type. The only difference between a LIFT and LCA is amount of weapons integrated and qualified on them. One look at the brochure and you can tell it is pretty competent compared to the Jf-17. The Thunder excels in better exotic stuff though (quality of radar, long stick and hypersonic strike), but when have any airforces of muslim countries understood the worth of top-line munitions. They like things like mileage, fuel, maintenance etc.. better.

It is a Lead in Fighter trainer, subsonic aircraft with no AB. It is not even in the same league as Multirole combat aircraft. There are no Light Combat Aircraft in the world except JF-17 and Tejas. Any air force that has seen conflict recently doesn't take a chance on advance trainers like FA-50 or M-346 for all combat missions. But if there is no threat and you just need a light duty jet, then it makes sense to make West happy for political reasons.

Why do you think "we even agreed with Iran" in the first place?

... Iran completed construction on its side but we didn't do on our side because US told us to not even think about it. ...
No such thing. Iran has only built a small portion on its side of the border as a symbolic gesture.

... The oil and gas via pipeline would have been extremely cheap for Pakistan. ...
Yes, it would be, that's why the Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline deal is still active to date.

... We can't even do this stuff and you think US will stay silent on defense production ?? Where is your ability to process information ? ...
No, they won't stay silent. They'll make a lot of noise like they did for three decades when we were building nukes and missiles.

... US is hell bent on destroying Iranian military capabilities and you think we are independent enough to face the sanctions? ...
The US even considered carrying out airstrikes on Pakistan's nuclear facilities but they came to the realisation that it wasn't a good idea.

... Secondly, KSA-Pak defense pact isn't against anybody but against Iran. ...
No it's not. The Iranian President at the UN General Assembly welcomed it the Pact and hoped to join it one day.

The 43 member Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) was set up for that purpose.

We already do more trade with Iran than India does. No one's complaining.

We've put in a lot of effort to end smuggling and legalise the trade as much as possible.

Shame.

14/03/2012: ICBC appears to back away from Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline: Reuters

Here's question for you?
Why can Pakistan-Iran build the gas pipeline using Chinese Yuan?

Things won't stay the way they are forever. The US has largely moved out of the region and is shifting it's focus to the Pacific and the Americas. Everyone is busy rebalancing their relations in the Middle East.

So, who knows J-10s and JF-17 Thunders could be in Iran in the near to mid-term future.
