JF-17 - Updates, News & Discussion

Somalia buying JF17 is utterly bizarre, it barely functions as a country, hasn't had a credible fast jet airforce in decades I think, doesn't even have infrastructure, would it even have enough money to maintain and operate the aircraft? They may ask mercenary pilots to fly them.
may be Pakistani pilots will fly them, check their location on the map, will give Pakistan a great advantage.

The prospect of Somalia acquiring the JF-17 presents a significant strategic opportunity, provided the geopolitical cards are played correctly. If Pakistan were to provide high-level "backdoor" operational support—reminiscent of the rumored strategic assistance provided to Sri Lanka during its conflict with the LTTE—it could prove to be a decisive game-changer.

Given that Somalia currently possesses practically no functional air force, the role of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) becomes indispensable. This is not merely a hardware sale; it involves a total transfer of operational doctrine (and may be actual ground and field support too). Without deep-rooted training and technical oversight from the PAF, the JF-17 could easily be underutilized or mismanaged. However, if employed effectively, these jets would provide Somalia with a renewed offensive punch to disrupt Al-Shabaab’s supply chains and neutralize domestic threats.

By leveraging this aerial advantage, the federal Somalian government could consolidate control over disputed territories like Somaliland and stabilize the region. Such a victory would serve as a massive publicity boost for the JF-17, positioning it as the premier "turnkey" solution for small nations seeking affordable yet lethal air power.
It's a direct checkmate to Israel recognizing Somaliland, people need to look beyond the weapons deals.

Guys what do you think are prospects of selling jf-17s to GCC countries after this war ends. I think afterwards their purse strings will be looser than ever and they’ll look for what ever they can get their hands on quickly which makes relatively short wait time for jf-17 ideal choice especially for countries with more smaller air force like oman Kuwait and Bahrain

i think otherwise .... these GCC countries will fall more into the western equipment trap. The rationale behind is the support and coverages they got in the conflict

The west has screwed them, the U.S has plunged them into chaos for Israel

If the Arabs are STUPID enough to still go for the same Western equipment, then they deserve humiliation and ridicule

If the Arabs are smart they will obtain more Chinese equipment and work with other Muslim countries, like Turkey or Pakistan for support

This is what I was trying to say 2 months ago. Jf17 is great choice for ksa and other arab countries. But some members started insulting for comparing it with f15 or typhoons

IMO, the best lesson to convey to the GCC states is that while they're free to buy arms from wherever they wish, they MUST man those weapon systems with personnel who will fight and die alongside them in a real fight. We need to convey the fact that Americans and Europeans are NOT those people, but Pakistanis are...

There was a time when the GCC states believed this, which is why even when they did buy weapons from the US or EU, they had Pakistanis help man them.

We need to return things back to that approach, and champion the concept that the GCC is sovereign and must lead its own defence. In other words, GCC nationals must lead, but we Pakistanis will be there to support them, fight with them, and die with them in defence of those lands. @Blain2 @redgriffin.

Jf-17 makes no sense for ksa. Its a small cheap lightweight fighter for the biggest and richest arab kingdom. The only way jf-17 makes sense for ksa is if they want to diversify away from americans like they did with their tornadoes.

Simple, then diversify. America is not a reliable partner except for israel. If you are american or western supporter its pointless to argue or debate with you.

If you are a muslim then you need to understand that. Jf17 is not just light fighter its a very good light fighter. Plus, tot will be given to produce all parts for it.

Im not in mood to debate. Last time it was insulting. Time has come and muslim countries will realize who is reliable.

Do you still believe that arbees are smart ?

Pakistan JF17s are now combat proven. World is taking notice. Problem with arbees is that they like shiny toys even at the cost of being almost toothless. (Just one example: Egypt has 200 plus f16s but no bvr capability. Only 8 that can fire obsolete sparrow. They went for rafael only to find out in the end that meteors are not coming! )

Azerbaijan orders 40 aselpods for JF-17s

sipri talks rubbish. i dont know where they get their data from but if sipri was to be belived, the PAF has a ton of extra kit we've never seen.

Israel bombed Qatar, and the U.S. air defense system failed to respond. American weapons have backdoors, and the U.S. controls these sold weapons. Gulf countries purchase these weapons but do not have full rights to use them. The U.S. uses bases to invade Iran, Iran attacks these bases, and the U.S. does not provide protection to the Gulf countries; the U.S. uses air defense systems to protect Israel. I believe that after this Middle East war ends, the Gulf countries need to consider the necessity of the presence of U.S. troops.

Many people have misunderstandings about the JF-17; before the May war, many people also had misunderstandings about the J-10CP. An aircraft, if it can detect the enemy first, attack the enemy first, and destroy the enemy first, is an advanced aircraft.

Considering land area, the JF-17 is suitable for most Gulf countries. This provides opportunities for the sale of the JF-17, VT-4, drones, and air defense systems.
