JF-17 - Updates, News & Discussion

sipri talks rubbish. i dont know where they get their data from but if sipri was to be belived, the PAF has a ton of extra kit we've never seen.

also, one pod per aircraft is just stupid, like, its very not legit lol
It might not be 40 or it maybe, but if Azerbaijan is going for it then it means they want JF-17s in primary strike roles, considering their recent spat with Iran over armed drones excursion.

Sipri has mixed reports and lumps things together. They have asked for Aselpods but other equipment along with it.

Yea I mean aselpod is a given, just not 40. I should have been clear.

They only have acces to and refer open source data, and for example if there is no contract details in open sources, and let’s say Azerbaijan has displayed a certain system, they will slap some random number. Let’s say there are 9 launchers of Puls displayed at military parade, they will slap that number as the total quantity.

But what they must have assumed in this case is that 40 aircraft = 40 pods.

How difficult is it to produce this aselpod equivalent at home?

I mean aselpod is pretty much integral part of jf17 sale.If these sub systems of JF17 can be produced and exported from Pakistan, that alone can create a pretty effective air technology ecosystem in Pakistan.
At the moment, we are just assembling the things together from multiple sources. That's alone a great start but there's room for further expansion.

Thanks, BTW how is ASELPOD capability wise, compared to other typical western pods like Litening/SniperXR/Damocles etc?

PAF had a sizeable stock of Sniper i believe?

The Radar is Chinese KLJ AESA or Turkish on the Azerbaijan models?

I believe a local targeting pod is being worked on, as for will it ever see the light of day only God knows.

@JamD Where do we source optics for missile seekers and Zumr etc from?

Probably at home

I only base this off the fact that awc back in the day was working heavily on optronics, including design of a local IRST system for the Mirages
What about IR lenses and FPA etc? Which components were they working on?
