i dont think so necessarily, both were upgraded, or rather, optimised, we dont know to what extend for the KLJ-7A, but based off of the orignal perf numbers, if we talk PURELY range, it was 170km for 3m^2 which is a really great number, but it means nothing, but yeah

Yes. Need atleast 50 more Block 3 before we move to block 4.

Pakistan's initial quest was to acquire 150 JF-17 Thunders.

As of 2023, Pakistan Air Force has inducted at least 158 JF-17 Thunders to date (132 Alphas and 26 Bravos), 5 of which have crashed according to publicly available data.

The JF-17 Thunder program was launched in response to India launching the LCA Flying Rickshaw project in 1984 and the US sanctioning PAF's Sabre-II Project with Grumman in 1990.

What does the PAF do now with the program when it has already achieved what it had sought out to do initially, and on top of that there's easy availability of acquiring the J-10C and the J-35?

1. Take JF-17 Thunder numbers to 200-250, induct 100 J-10Cs and 50 J-35s (350-400 combat air force).
2. Keep the Thunder numbers at 150, induct 150-200 J-10Cs and 50-100 J-35s (350-450 combat air force).

Though the KLJ-7A was available in multiple versions, one with a fixed-array, another with a mechanically steered panel, and a form with side-mounted panels.[2] However, Warnes’ noted that the PAF opted for an air-cooled version of the KLJ-7A, potentially indicating the existence of a fourth variant.[3]

But there were many limitations (differences in both blocks) which limited the full conversion of block 1s to block 2s. So we can say that upgraded block 1s are not true block 2s and have not equal performance. This would mean that we would still require retiring block 1s starting in 5 years because of the structural limitations of first block.

That's why I was advocating for 50 more block 3, so that we can take time to come up with a block 4, possibly with a ws-21 engine, in 2-3 years and then make 100 of them. While the current fleet will be enough to take this gap.

PAF can always replace Block-1s and Block-2s with Block-3s as and when each aircraft needs retiring.

So, we can say 150 Block-3s by 2040 and no other block.

If you stop with block 3, then what did "Joint Fighter -17" program actually achieved ? It was meant to be our thing. To keep upgrading it based on our needs and technological advancements. I believe we should keep upgrading it.

Block 4 in 2028-30. Make 100 of those to replace older block 1. Then block 5 by 2035-37. Make another 100 of those to replace older block 2. Then block 6.... a new block adter every 5-7 years. While keep retiring those older blocks at end of their life and keep replacing them with these new blocks.

Block I is obsolete plane now. Was good for getting JF-17 inducted quickly in early days, but I would say now we can really only regard anything with AIM-120 and PL-15 and with targeting pods as frontline. So around 4 F-16 Sqds, 2 JF-17C sqds and 1 J-1C sqd

They are still good till post 2035 after the MLU. Main problem is F7 and Mirrages. I wonder how many are left.
