The faster this "mutual defense alliance" grows without a strong foundation the weaker it will become...I think it could be likely Egypt, then Qatar the Kuwait and then maybe (Jordan) join. If they do then I think it is likely they buy internally- or from Chinese a good ally of Pakistan that is around 10% of the US military exports. Europe makes up about 25% of US military exports. If this Mecca Pact were to buy elsewhere too then this will have a huge hit on US Economy and the US blackmail leverage they got over us thru FROM political and military will be diminished.
My hope is Turkey China Pakistan sell big military technology to the Pact and stop GCC money going abroad into western pockets.- if this happens then the security arrangements for western imperialism in Middle East and further a field will be looked at by them:
...ideally I hope it doesn't go the way of SEATO or CENTO or whatever other grouping in the past that led to nowhere useful.
If a country joins ..they bring their geopolitical baggage with it. Without a strong foundation(interoperability, shared/common defense equipment, joint training, etc)..and the mutual defense clause is tested right away...like an enemy or rival attacks the newly joined member...
...the 3 core members wouldn't be able to respond effectively(at the moment...bcuz they are 3 separate militaries)...
...and then what? Would it make that 4th member lose confidence?
Yes
...would it make other prospective future members not want to join?
Yes
...would it make the current 3 members think that this agreement is ineffective?
Yes
It's appealing to include other countries...bcuz it means more capital, more manpower, bigger budget, etc...
...but that should only happen later down the road on case by case basis AFTER the 3 original members have built interoperability to such an extent that they can easily deploy to each other in decent numbers(as reinforcement if need be) and operate as ONE against an attack.
