Authorities have imposed a three-day curfew in Shakai Tehsil of Lower South Waziristan, restricting public movement due to ongoing security operations, Express News reported.

According to a notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Nasir Khan, the curfew will be enforced in the Sangah and Anzar Cheena areas from 5:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily, beginning Saturday.

“There will be a complete ban on stepping outside during curfew hours. The restrictions are necessary due to the movement of security forces in the area,” said the notification.

Deputy Commissioner Khan appealed to the residents of Shakai for cooperation during this critical time. “We urge the public to work with security forces to ensure the smooth execution of these measures,” he added.

The curfew is part of intensified efforts by security forces to stabilise the region following a surge in militancy. Authorities assured that the restrictions would be lifted once the situation improves.

Eight terrorists were killed in two separate engagements with security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Khyber and Bannu districts, the military’s media wing said on Sunday.

A statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that an intelligence-based operation was conducted in the Baka Khell area of the Bannu district on the reported presence of terrorists (Khawarij).

“During the conduct of the operation, troops effectively engaged with the terrorists’ location and consequently killed five khawarij, while nine others were injured,” the ISPR said.

However, Sepoy Iftikhar Hussain (29), having fought gallantly, embraced martyrdom, the statement added.

In a separate operation conducted in the general area of Shagai in Khyber district, three terrorists were killed while two others were apprehended by the security forces, it said.

“Captain Muhammad Zohaibud Din (25), who led the troops from the front, fought bravely, paid the ultimate sacrifice and embraced martyrdom,” the ISPR said.

According to the statement, the terrorists were involved in numerous terrorist activities against the security forces as well as innocent civilians.

Sanitisation operations were being conducted to eliminate any other terrorists found in the area, it said, adding that security forces were determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism and “such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthened our resolve”.

In July, the government, through an official notification, designated the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as Fitna al Khawarij, while mandating all institutions to use the term khariji (outcast) when referring to the perpetrators of terrorist attacks on Pakistan.

The country has lately witnessed a sharp uptick in the number of attacks targeting security forces, other law enforcement agencies, and security checkpoints, particularly in Balochistan and KP.

Attacks escalated after the TTP broke a fragile ceasefire agreement with the government in 2022 and vowed to target security forces.

Earlier this month, security forces killed 10 terrorists and injured eight others during three different engagements in North Waziristan.

On Nov 7, security forces killed five terrorists during an exchange of fire in South Waziristan, while four soldiers were martyred in the operation.

In another incident on Nov 4, security forces killed seven terrorists in separate operations, with one terrorist killed in Balochistan and the other six killed during two operations in KP.

Likewise, on November 2, four terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation in KP’s South Waziristan region.

LAKKI MARWAT: Three people, including a police official, were martyred in a gun attack in Paharkhel Pacca area of Lakki Marwat district here on Saturday.

A police official said that the firing took place in the limits of Ghaznikhel police station.

He said that unknown armed assailants attacked a police official, Qadeer Khan, near the village’s graveyard, and escaped.

“Qadeer received critical bullet injuries and died on the spot, while two villagers, Abdul Hakim and his son, Rafiullah were seriously wounded in the attack,” he maintained.

The official said that both the injured succumbed to their wounds when they were being shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital.

“The martyred police official was a sub-inspector and was currently posted in Faisalabad. He had come to his village on leave,” the official said.

After the attack, a large police contingent reached the remote locality and launched a search for the assailants,” he said.

He said that the police’s Counter-Terrorism Department registered a case and initiated an investigation.

Meanwhile, the elders of Bakkakhel tribe formed a 12-member committee to meet government authorities to bring into their notice the issues faced by tribesmen as a result of operations against terrorists in the area.

The committee was formed at a jirga held in Ghora Bakkakhel area of Bannu district on Saturday.

Malik Gulbaz Khan, Malik Sher Wali Khan and other tribal elders said that military operations against terrorists in the locality caused troubles to the local tribesmen.

They said that the closure of roads and curfew-like situation had become a routine, forcing the tribesmen to stay indoors for their safety.

They said that they would take up their issues with the government officials for quick redressal. They also warned that the tribesmen would hold a sit-in if their grievances were not addressed.
