I don’t understand this logic. Why should Pashtuns choose Pakistan over their own Pashtun identity? Whether they live in Afghanistan or Pakistan, they are still Pashtuns.

Identity is a very flexible concept and an ethnicity can easily have different varieties and subgroups and belong to multiple states. Pakistani Pashtuns have their own history and culture.
