Largest train station in the world opened

Its the chongqing east railway station and its got everything from shopping to hotels

Fun fact it took just 38 months to build. Advanced robots did most of the building and measuring which is why it was so fast and precise.

Interesting but I wonder what’s the need of such a large station anywhere in the world?

The idea of train stations built inside the shopping centres is old and many European cities have applied It for decades. For example Westfield Shopping Centre in London built in 2005-12 says the following

1.9 million sqft retail, dining and leisure destination. 350 brands including John Lewis, Waitrose, M&S, Apple, Vue Cinema, Aspers Casino, 1 million sqft offices, 1,200 apartments, 2 hotels, public realm, town centre link bridge, Olympic Park road infrastructure and Stratford underground ticket hall.

This s besides the East Village project housing millions of square metres of residential apartments and were part of the same or parallel projects.

I think in Europe we have train stations built inside the shopping centres similar to UAE where there is a massive train station build inside Burj Dubai and Mall of the Emirates… but in China probably build shopping centres inside the train station to achieve such distinction?

I think in Europe we have train stations built inside the shopping centres similar to UAE where there is a massive train station build inside Burj Dubai and Mall of the Emirates… but in China probably build shopping centres inside the train station to achieve such distinction?

I think its to do with high speed rail and local metro put together which requires massive train stations. Its mostly also for leisure and shopping as well but China tends to put places of entertainment everywhere.

Maybe this station is in middle of many different t routes crossing through it ? And then considering the population of china and their usage of trains.... it seems necessary. Also consider maybe the future expansion. Maybe they did a sensitivity analysis and found that building full scale now is cheaper than building this in 2 stages (the second being later like 10-15 years)

This HSR train station is located in the largest city of the world, Chongqing, with 32 million residents. It's the largest manufacturing hub in Western China. China is developing its Western region on rapid and massive scale for the next decade or two as China had developed its Eastern coast region in the past decades. So such massive HSR station for the city is probably not a waste of money and resources.

Modern Chinese people (referring to those living in mainland China) frequently travel between major cities and regions. At the same time, many people travel throughout China during national holidays. This creates enormous pressure on passenger transport.

Chongqing is one of the central cities in Southwest China. Its local population exceeds 30 million, with an additional large number of migrant workers.

The need for such a massive high-speed rail passenger station is therefore a natural consequence.

China is developing its Western region on rapid and massive scale for the next decade or two as China had developed its Eastern coast region in the past decades. So such massive HSR station for the city is probably not a waste of money and resources.

What I like most about China is that they try to beautify everything and make everything interesting. Even walking the streets is interesting to see all the fun and entertainment everywhere.

Even when China was dirt poor when I was little, there was still entertainment around every corner e.g. buying a baby turtle from one guy and then looking through big telescopes at the moon after that. Don't have to be rich to make your country fun and beautiful.

Good news. Reports say China in recent month has drastically reduced the approvals of Indians applying for Chinese commercial visas that count for 70% of all applications to about 20% to 30%. That maybe due to the backlash of Chinese citizens. Should keep reducing the approval rate to about 5% and also apply to other categories.

Indians are so backwards they can not possibly help or contribute to china. Only thing they can do is try and steal and scam money and technology from China. I wouldn't even trust an Indian in china to teach English tbh..
