US Statement:

The arrangement between Lebanon and Israel, monitored by the United States, will continue to be in effect until February 18, 2025.

The Government of Lebanon, the Government of Israel, and the Government of the United States will also begin negotiations for the return of Lebanese prisoners captured after October 7, 2023.

The Lebanese Army really is incompetent.

The truth is that they should have been the first in line to fight off Israel, not Hezbullah. They ran cowering because their generals didn't want to admit they are nothing more than a token puppet force that answers to foreign powers' whims, those powers that have friendly relations with Israeli far right fascists.

Hopefully, one day the Lebanese army will realize this and stop being a force capable of fighting only its own people. The day that happens is the day Israel will no longer be able to threaten Lebanon.

On a side note, if China is serious about being a counterweight to the US, maybe look to increase influence in Lebanon by funding and arming the Lebanese Armed Forces. This would push out certain powers that are purposefully keeping the Lebanese Army weak, and would give pause to Israel.
