Awesome! ITS Students Sweep Championships at World Robot Competition 2025

Another proud achievement has been made by the Robotics Team of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS). At the prestigious Federation of International Robot Association (FIRA) Roboworld Cup 2025, the team swept numerous championship titles across multiple categories.
ITS sent two leading teams to the competition: Team Iris, focusing on autonomous car robots, and Team Ichiro, competing in the humanoid robot category. Both teams delivered outstanding performances, dominating the podium in their respective fields.
Team Iris achieved remarkable success, winning 1st place in the Autonomous Car Challenge Physic Pro and Race Category, and 2nd place in the Urban Category. Their technology combined innovations from two previous robots — RAISA and i-Car — adapted specifically for the competition.
"We combined the technologies we had in the RAISA and i-Car robots with several adjustments," said Muhtadin ST MT, Coordinator of the ITS Robotics Team, quoted from the campus website, Thursday (Aug 21, 2025).
Meanwhile, Team Ichiro excelled in the humanoid category. In the adult-size humanoid division, the team swept five championship titles: 1st place in United Challenge, All-round, Manipulation, Hybrid, and Mobility.
"This achievement was made possible by the students’ persistence in developing their ideas in robotics," Muhtadin said.
Equally impressive, in the kid-size humanoid category, two Ichiro sub-teams also recorded outstanding results. They won 2nd and 3rd place in the All-round competition, along with various titles in the Manipulation, Hybrid, and Mobility subcategories.
World-Class Innovation
This success did not come overnight. Research and development began as early as February 2025, starting with the submission of scientific papers describing the robots’ specifications and materials, followed by regular evaluations and testing.
"We added a lot of image processing features so that the robots could adapt better to real-world conditions," explained Muhtadin.
For the autonomous car, Team Iris developed an advanced maneuvering system with a simple, easy-to-replace battery model. The goal was to make the robot as similar as possible to real vehicles, both in design and functionality.
Supporting SDGs Through Robotics
This achievement aligns with ITS’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
The ITS Robotics Team has proven that Indonesian students can compete at the international level. Through perseverance, innovation, and collaborative spirit, they have brought pride to Indonesia on the global technology stage.
About FIRA Roboworld Cup 2025
This international event is organized by the Federation of International Robot Association (FIRA), a non-profit organization that fosters global innovation and collaboration in robotics. The competition is considered one of the world’s top platforms for young innovators to showcase future robotic technologies.
This year, FIRA Roboworld was held at Exco, Daegu, South Korea, from August 11–15, 2025.

Indonesia’s Illiteracy Rate Falls Below 1 Percent

Jakarta. The illiteracy rate in Indonesia continues to decline. Deputy of Primary and Secondary Education Minister, Atip Latipulhayat, said on Friday that over the past five years, Indonesia, through collective efforts, has successfully reduced the illiteracy rate to just 0.92 percent.
Atip added that this achievement is not the end, as there are still districts in Indonesia that require more serious efforts in eradicating illiteracy. “The government is committed to leaving no citizen behind,” he said, as quoted by Antara.
Atip revealed that this year, International Literacy Day is being celebrated under the global theme “Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era.”
According to him, this theme serves as a reminder to all Indonesians that literacy is not merely the ability to read and write, but rather the fundamental foundation for building an intelligent, independent, critical, productive, and inclusive society.
“Moreover, this theme is highly relevant to the rapid advancement of technology in the digital era, where we all recognize how fast technology is progressing. Therefore, digital literacy skills must be accompanied by the ability to use them positively in efforts to build civilization,” Atip said.
He stressed that the government, through the Primary and Secondary Education Ministry, continues to strengthen policies and programs that promote literacy skills across the country, especially in regions that still face challenges of illiteracy and limited access to education.
One such initiative, he said, is the digitalization of education, which includes enhancing digital literacy skills through smart digital screens or interactive flat panels.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto said that the government would gradually provide smart digital screens in schools. “Even now, we have begun distributing them, but so far, only one smart digital screen per school. However, this year, we expect 330,000 schools to receive them,” Prabowo said.
The provision of these learning tools is expected to improve the quality of education in schools and help address the shortage of teachers in certain regions.
The President also mentioned that the government would select 20 to 30 of the best teachers for each subject. They will later deliver lessons through live broadcasts from a central studio.

Young Indonesian Gymnast Naufal Takdir Dies at 19 After Training Mishap in Russia

Jakarta. Indonesian gymnast Naufal Takdir Al Bari passed away in Penza, Russia, on Thursday. Naufal was declared dead after undergoing intensive treatment for 12 days at GA Zakharyin Hospital.
The passing of the 19-year-old athlete is a great loss for the Indonesian Gymnastics Federation and a deep blow to the national sports community. Naufal Takdir was known as one of Indonesia’s most talented gymnasts.
Naufal had been attending a training camp at The Palace of Sport Training Center Burtasy since September 1, along with four other male artistic gymnasts and two coaches.
The program was supported by the National Sports Training Center -- or PPON -- under the Youth and Sports Ministry as preparation for the 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships 2025, the 2025 SEA Games in Bangkok, and the projection for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
However, in the midst of the training program, Naufal had an accident during practice. He was immediately rushed to the hospital and received intensive care in the ICU. For nearly two weeks, the medical team, together with the federation, made every effort to provide the best treatment.
The Chairwoman of the Indonesian Gymnastics Federation, Ita Yuliati, expressed deep sorrow over Naufal’s passing, describing him as a talented young athlete and a kind individual.
"Indonesian gymnastics has lost one of the nation’s finest sons. This is a profound blow and sorrow for us. May the family be given strength, and may Naufal be granted the best place by Allah SWT,” said Ita in her statement on Friday.
As of now, the Indonesian Gymnastics Federation, together with relevant parties, is still handling the process of repatriating Naufal’s body to Indonesia. Communication is ongoing with his family, the East Java provincial federation, the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow, and the Russian Gymnastics Federation to ensure a smooth process so that the body can soon return to the homeland for burial.
"We continue to communicate with the family, the East Java provincial federation, the Russian Gymnastics Federation, the Indonesian Embassy in Russia, as well as the Russian Embassy in Indonesia, so that the repatriation of the late athlete’s body can be carried out as soon as possible,” Ita added.

Immigration Contributes Rp48 Trillion Investment from Issuance of 1,012 Golden Visas

The Directorate General of Immigration of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Imipas) has contributed Rp48 trillion in investment through the issuance of Golden Visas. This figure is considered significant, with a total of 1,012 Golden Visas issued as of September 23.
“Indonesia’s Golden Visa is one of the flagship programs of the Directorate General of Immigration, expected to support national economic growth,” said Acting Director General of Immigration at Imipas, Yuldi Yusman, as quoted by detikcom from the ministry’s website on Monday (Sept 29, 2025).
Yuldi added that, in addition to the investment value, Golden Visa issuance has generated Rp12.96 billion in non-tax state revenue (PNBP) as of September 23, 2025. “This aligns with the immigration function as a facilitator of community welfare development,” he stated.
Golden Visa holders in Indonesia come from 61 countries, proving that investing and residing in Indonesia under the scheme provides comfort and unique appeal for foreign nationals.
According to Yuldi, the largest contribution to the investment value comes from foreign companies establishing subsidiaries or branches in Indonesia, amounting to nearly Rp46.5 trillion (≈96% of total investment). Meanwhile, individual investors contributed Rp249.3 billion, and other Golden Visa subjects invested Rp1.45 trillion.
Yuldi further explained that the Golden Visa is a residence permit granted to foreign nationals (FNs) under certain categories, such as investors, foreigners with special expertise, world figures, and former Indonesian citizens and their descendants. The Golden Visa is valid for 5–10 years.
Its benefits include priority access at airports, simplified immigration services, and legal certainty for investing and working in Indonesia.
“The Golden Visa achievement up to September 2025 proves that Indonesia is becoming increasingly attractive to investors and global talent. We hope this positive trend continues to support national development and strengthen Indonesia’s economy,” Yuldi concluded.
The Directorate General of Immigration’s efforts are in line with the sixth point of the 13 Acceleration Programs of Immigration Minister Agus Andrianto, namely improving public services in the immigration sector through digitalization.

800 Students Inaugurated as Google Student Ambassadors, Promoting AI Adoption

KOMPAS.com – A total of 800 students from across Indonesia have officially been inaugurated as Google Student Ambassadors.
Google stated that the program aims to empower young people to actively promote inclusive and responsible use of digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) within university environments.
During registration, more than 12,000 students from 763 universities participated. The inauguration event was held on Monday (Sept 29, 2025), attended by 100 ambassadors in person.
Google Indonesia’s Country Marketing Manager, Muriel M, explained that AI has been ingrained in Google since 2017 through features such as Google Maps, Google Lens, and Gemini.
Muriel emphasized that Gemini was designed to assist, not replace human roles in daily activities.
“Google Student Ambassadors play a very important role. You are the leaders on your campuses who can ensure that AI technology brings benefits to your learning environment and to fellow students,” Muriel said in her remarks at SCBD, South Jakarta, Monday (Sept 29, 2025).
Why They Joined & “Don’t Fear AI”
Several selected students shared their reasons for joining the program.
Nasywa Nozumi, a Computer Science student at IPB, said she interacts closely with AI in her daily life.
“I hope I can be a representative, an extension for my fellow students on campus so they can become more familiar with Google’s features,” Nasywa said.
Meanwhile, Rizky Fahmi Hidayat, a first-semester ITB student, admitted he initially feared being replaced by AI in the workforce. However, he holds firmly to the principle: “adapt or die.”
