Messi certainly wasn't an innocent party, but I feel some small token sympathy towards him because of his father's situation during the world cup and his subsequent death, which only came to light afterwards.

Agree with you on that 100%... I used to like the guy but not anymore, also Brazil/Spain were always my top 2 favorite.
