Long Amtrak Train Trip Starting 26 August!

The Sightseeing Car was high in demand on Zephyr. Two ladies sat besides me. Married to each other. They were from Maine. We had a nice long chat. They were staying in a room for the long trip for $2500 plus other charges. Plus their flight to Chicago and what not other expenses. I don't think they were rich but celebrating some special date/event. After our long chat there, I decided to move away from them to let them have their own couple's time. But I could sense they wanted to have their own time after that and felt they were not so keen on meeting me, which was understandable. So I too kept my distance from them during the rest of the trip. We said Hello/Hi when ran into each other.

The headphone guy became a bit of a bother to me and probably others. I don't know if he had mental issues or not but all he did was to have the headphone on him and mumbled words. And by day two on the Zephyr, he stank really badly. And he had taken a particular fondness to sit in the Sightseeing Car right next to me. I once begged some people to take the seat next to me as the headphone guy could sit elsewhere. Sorry, but sitting next to someone like him was too much; it almost came to puking from his stench.

Finally in Utah. Some majestic National Parks in that region. A retired college professor was sitting next to me in the Sightseeing Lounge and she kept pointing toward the hills and the erosion. She said it is possible that once the Colorado River was that high. She mentioned something like Moraines. But she didn't seem like an expert in geology--which I am not either--but when she said the Ice Age extended to FL then I didn't agree with her. So she looked up on her phone and corrected herself. A polite fun lady! She complimented me: "You look like a college professor". Haha!

Breathtaking landscapes. You get such a unique blend of natural features in between the urban settlements in North America. If I visit USA again (when i have time on my hands!), I would like to take the Appalachian trail.

Mr. Spiro was the Cafe Car attendant for the most of the trip on Zephyr. He is from Chicago. Has a thick accent and people think he is Italian but he is a born and raised American of Greek origin. Friendly, chatty guy.
