Historic Iron Furnace
On his historic journey through the gap in 1750, Dr. Thomas Walker made note of a spring coming from a cave. In his journal he noted that "the spring is sufficient to turn a mill." In 1819, a blast furnace was built on the stream below the cave, now known as Gap Cave. Large, sandstone blocks were used from nearby and fire brick was used to line the inside of the furnace which was used to smelt iron.

Iron ore was mined nearby, limestone was added in the process, and firewood was made into charcoal for use as fuel. Water from the stream powered large bellows and a massive hammer mill.

Each day 625 bushels of charcoal (approximately 52 trees), 6 1/4 tons of iron ore, and 1,563 pounds of limestone were used to produce approximately 3 tons of iron. The furnace, which was known as Newlee's Iron Furnace, operated throughout the 1800's. Some of the iron was sold to local blacksmiths. Some of the iron was shipped in the form of ingots or "pigs" down the Powell River to Chattanooga, Tennessee

How Mexicans fit into modern age issue ?
Well after Natives gained freedom from Spanish , the "American Settlers" came in and took over Mexican land , Texas , California and other places
in a Short War
  • Mexico was blockaded from all side so they would get no reinforcement , the newly free Nation from Spanish , lost lot of the territory to American settlers
  • This left a very bad taste in Mexican mouth which exist even today

True in past 1600-1900
  • Settlers only with rights
  • Black salves , labourers no vote right
  • Women could not vote
  • Coloured immigrant from China , who constructed train tracks, not allowed citizenship , removed from country
  • Native Indians , no rights called savages
  • Mexicans/Spanish issues
  • French were there too before they left it all after nepoleon's death fighting british Empire
  • Destruction of Wild Bison Live stock

Alot has changed in USA in 50-70 years
  • Voting Rights Blacks (14% demographic) and Women
  • Asians in USA , South Korea , Vietnam, Philippines may be even Chinese or Japanese
  • Naturalized citizen
  • Growth of Spanish culture in USA (13% demographic)
  • Native Indian tribes still struggling a bit
  • More Germans migrating to USA after ww2

But it is fair to say some progress was made but still there are some tension

What does past history has to do with Present?

Not much , Still if someone is illegal migrant they are illegal migrant breaking law of that country

For now the issue is just folks who are not legal resident of USA

Migrants have to respect law of modern USA
