Raytheon Emirates to co-produce Coyote C-UAS interceptor in the UAE

1745536433223.jpeg

Fahad Al Mheiri, managing director of Raytheon Emirates has been enthusing about it and was keen to stress that this was not just manufacturing components, but an actual end product, providing the company with its first ‘real big product’.

Achieving this without first undertaking smaller scale component manufacturing marks a ‘giant step’ for Raytheon Emirates.

Coyote is an agile, highly capable counter to a range of drone threats and is a relatively new programme of record, and not a legacy product.

Al Mheiri hopes that the first assembly line outside the USA will allow something that is now available only via the US foreign military sales (FMS) process to become available via direct commercial sales – “selling globally to the world”.

He believes that the first Emirati-assembled Coyote will be delivered in a little over two years. But, before that, Emirati-built components for the Coyote interceptor will feed into Raytheon’s US production line.

This follows yesterday’s MoU signatures with five UAE defence industry partners – EPI, Halcon, Lahab Defense Systems, Rockford Xellerix, and Milectria.

“Raytheon Emirates is proud to have worked alongside Tawazun to bring co-production of the Coyote interceptor to the UAE,” Al Mheiri said.

“We know, from our nearly 40-year relationship with the UAE, that this country has the talent, infrastructure, and government support to make an undertaking like this possible. This coproduction of Coyote, a critical defence capability for countries that face an evolving drone threat, will simultaneously grow the local defence ecosystem while also enhancing Raytheon Technologies’ global supply chain.”

Emirati production of the Coyote interceptor, and its components, is only a first step for Raytheon Emirates, which hopes to help the company’s suppliers develop their capabilities and to contribute components for many more Raytheon products.

There is, as yet, no formal local requirement for the Coyote, but Al Mheiri said that he is “not too worried about that, as we are looking at a programme with a global scale.”

His Excellency Dr. Nasser Al -Nuaimi, Secretary -General of the Balance Council, and the USA ambassador to the UAE, His Excellency Martina Strong, are witnessing a strategic partnership between the Balance Council and Raytheon to localize the production of the Caity anti -aircraft system in the UAE.

It is used in the manufacture of advanced radars .. The UAE is on the way to become the second largest Gallium producer in the world under a new agreement with RTX

1747500185802.webp

The agreement aims to create gallium refining capabilities in Abu Dhabi to support supply chains in the fields of aviation, defense and semi -conductors.

May 16, 2025: Tawazun Council, the UAE government agency, the American RTX Air and Defense Industries, and the Emirates International Aluminum Company (EGA) signed a memorandum of understanding today to develop the capabilities of gallium production in the UAE, which paves the way for the UAE to become the second largest producer of this mineral in the world.

This project is based on the ega Alumina refinery in the Tawila area of Abu Dhabi, where the gallium will be extracted and repeated from the Boxet. Galium is an element found in small quantities in Boxett, and was traditionally considered impurities in the aluminum production process, but today it is a vital component in a number of advanced industries.

In the defense sector, gallium is used to manufacture systems such as advanced radars. The agreement will ensure stable supply chains for companies such as RTX, which depends heavily on regular access to rare minerals in their defensive and satellite solutions.

Galium is considered an essential element in sectors that include semiconductors, military radars, electric vehicles, medical technologies, and communications.

EGA and RTX also plan to conduct a feasibility study to build a highly purity gallium production facility on the long site, which will add a new industrial ability within the Emirates, and enhance the strategic goals of the "300 billion project" that aims to develop the national industrial sector.

Tawazun Council, which works closely with the UAE Ministry of Defense to build a sustainable defensive industrial base, stressed the strategic value of this cooperation.

It is expected that the new ability to produce gallium will contribute to attracting investments, enhancing national security through the flexibility of supply chains, and expanding the role of the UAE in the global technology system.

This agreement comes in the wake of the visit of former US President Donald Trump to the Middle East, which resulted in the signing of agreements of 179 billion euros (200 billion dollars) with the UAE, which included plans to establish the largest university campus of artificial intelligence in the world in Abu Dhabi.

EDGE is the UAE's largest arms maker. It is owned by the government and in 2021 announced it would jointly develop unmanned vessels, capable of missions including submarine detection, with state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries.

>> Pakistan should keep away from UAE defence products as they could have Israeli technology (backdoors) in them… looks like UAE will become a front for Israeli rebranded technology and weapons…
