The UAE received the fourth advanced GlobalEye early warning aircraft
Michael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab, said: “I am proud to celebrate the fourth delivery of the world’s leading GlobalEye airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft solution to the UAE and continue to support its operational availability and mission success. “GlobalEye’s high pace of delivery is a testament to our unique in-house capability which means we control the entire process, from development to integration.”
Since signing the initial contract in 2015, the UAE has demonstrated its confidence in Saab's capabilities by ordering a total of five GlobalEye aircraft. The additional order in 2021 underscores the UAE’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology to enhance its defense capabilities.
GlobalEye represents the pinnacle of AEW&C's multi-domain solutions, equipped with a range of active and passive sensors capable of long-range detection across air, sea and land domains, Saab said. By providing real-time intelligence to various military units, GlobalEye facilitates enhanced situational awareness and early detection of threats, thus enhancing national security.
GlobalEye Features:
• Low Threat Detection Capability: Operating at 35,000 feet, GlobalEye can detect low-level threats (at 200 feet) at distances greater than 458 km (247 nautical miles).
• Long-range radar: The GlobalEye's top-mounted box contains a 10-meter-long Erieye Extended Range radar antenna, which is the main sensor.
• High flight endurance: According to Saab, as a GlobalEye platform, the Bombardier aircraft is ideal for special mission applications with more than 11 hours of flight endurance.
• Performance that allows take-off and landing at small airports: The Global 6500 has a take-off distance of 6,370 feet (1,941 meters).
• The aircraft’s radar can detect a small commercial drone the size of a laptop from a distance of 100 kilometers.
• Detecting small fighters and large drones from a distance of 550 km.
• The sensitivity of the radar reaches its ability to detect helicopters and track the speed of rotation of the blades.
The GlobalEye was specifically designed for the United Arab Emirates Air Force. While the Erieye AEW&C radar system is manufactured by Saab, the aircraft is based on the Canadian-made Bombardier Global Express 6000 business jet. In 2015, the Gulf monarchy ordered three aircraft, before placing a follow-up order for two more in January 2021. The first was delivered on April 29, 2020.

Milrem Robotics Wins Major THeMIS UGV Deal from Japan

Milrem Robotics, a subsidiary of the Edge Group, has secured a deal to provide the Japan Ground Self-Defense Forces (JGSDF) with three of its advanced THeMIS tracked unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). The contract underscores Japan’s push to integrate unmanned capabilities and bolster its asymmetric warfare assets.
The three THeMIS UGVs destined for the JGSDF will be outfitted for cargo transportation and intelligence gathering roles. Crucially, they will be equipped with Milrem’s Intelligent Functions Kit (MIFIK) which enables autonomous operation, reducing operator workload. This allows the vehicles to execute on-road and off-road missions independently.
Japan’s Ministry of Defense awarded the contract through its newly launched Rapid Acquisition Program, aimed at swiftly fielding critical technologies to frontline forces. The proven THeMIS was selected after being tested in numerous military drills worldwide.
The THeMIS comprises two tracked pods housing batteries and a generator, connected by a central payload bay that can accommodate different mission payloads. It can be rapidly reconfigured from a transport role to a weaponized system, CBRN detection, ISR, or other specialty roles.
For combat missions, the THeMIS provides mobile direct fire support and acts as a force multiplier for dismounted troops by allowing them to observe and engage targets from standoff ranges. It has been showcased armed with heavy machine guns, automatic grenade launchers, and anti-tank missiles.
Milrem’s UGVs are now fielded by 16 nations, including 8 NATO allies like the US, UK, Germany and France.

EDGE and Fincantieri sign an official agreement to launch the joint shipbuilding project “Mistral”

The Mistral project will focus on sales, business operations, engineering, design and service, while providing valuable employment opportunities for highly skilled local and international talent.

Leveraging advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the tactical drones share information with one another to track and maintain their relative positions, and to effectively engage targets. Featuring a maximum take-off weight of 8kg, the swarm of drones are agile and responsive while being directed to their target, which may include enemy fighter jets on the tarmac at a military base, or an incoming convoy of enemy armoured vehicles, for example.
The drones are equipped to operate at cruising speeds that support mission success, with a significant communications range and healthy flight endurance. The winged UAVs can be deployed in a matter of seconds, featuring a wingspan of 1.44m and a length of 1.25m.

THEMIS UGV is a multi-terrain and multi-use unmanned ground vehicle. Thanks to its modularity, it can be used for combat, surveillance, transporting goods and evacuating casualties. DGE, one of the world’s leading advanced technology and defence groups, has signed a landmark contract to supply 200 HT-100 and HT-750 unmanned helicopters to the UAE Ministry of Defence, as part of a milestone deal which is the largest ever order for unmanned helicopter systems, to enhance their VTOL capabilities. The unmanned VTOL systems will be manufactured by Switzerland-based EDGE entity, ANAVIA, which specialises in the development and manufacturing of autonomous aerial capabilities
