Manchester City Verdict Strains UK-UAE Diplomatic Relations

If this is really how the UAE is treating the ruling, then it says quite a lot about how closely Manchester City is tied to the country's broader interests.

But I also find the idea of billions in UK investment being put at risk because of a Premier League ruling pretty bizarre. The whole point of having an independent sporting regulator is that governments aren't supposed to be able to influence its decisions.

And Burnham thanking City for their investment while the club is appealing a ruling over hundreds of millions in allegedly inflated sponsorship revenue doesn't exactly help the argument that football and politics are separate.

UAE threatens Burnham over Man City: Weโ€™ll pull billions out of UK

Prime Minister under pressure as Gulf state warns it will withdraw investment in retaliation for Premier League row

Imagine if glorified fishing village UAE actually had the balls to do that ๐Ÿคฃ

They are a khassi nation. They would not dare bite one of the hands that feeds it. They must have half a million Brits working over there for starters.... and they think they can harm Britain.

The Emiratis are mice, but trying to mimic lions. It is so hilarious to see how Britain is folding in front of the Emiratis.

I suspect UAE are in meltdown because MCFC really was the golden goose.

Essentially, as you said, we're now facing a situation where NOT ONLY is MCFC plc guilty of grand corruption of the sport of football, BUT ALSO that corruption pathway leads back to Sheikh Mansour himself, a member of UAE government/royalty. Damage of that reputation specifically (when it is proved that Mansour was fully aware of all these happenings, which will undoubtedly emerge ipso facto) will have repercussions for all foreign sports and culture hosted in UAE.

I look forward to every minute of it.

There is little doubt that Manchester City face severe punishment, signaling a humiliating end to the UAE's high profile PR project. It is hard to imagine the Emiratis walking away scot free after such extensive revelations. The UAE's global image risks being dragged through the dirt as foreign corruption faces unprecedented scrutiny. Should Britain bow to foreign pressure, it would make a mockery of its own legal system. This saga has grown too large to end without a definitive reckoning.

I think the down of UAE has started.
Europe along with Saudia,Egypt and other countries will wrick the UAE.

The UAE has done a lot of damage to other countries, few days Algeria has kicked the UAE embassy out and abolished all diplomatic ties with them ( second after Sudan).

I have said it before. The UAE is a pariah. Within the Islamic world it only has a few allies. Apart from these Israel, the US and India are the only other three.

Where are the Indians to lecture Britain that without Hindu Emirati support they are doomed?

Emeratis are in trouble here, they will not pull anything.

Tourism is massively down, the Flydubai incident has further dented trust in their systems and processes and now this.

Just a year ago one could have never imagined all this things combining and Dubai was an example of what others wanted to emulate, now it is becoming a horror story.

If the Saudis had any sense they would pick their moment soon, send their paratroopers into Abu Dhabi, send 4th Armoured and 10th and 11th Mech brigades racing into UAE while AH-64s fly very low and take out UAE airbases.

It is getting worse for UAE.

UAE making threats against Britain, imagine how much threats GCC rulers make against other nations, especially Muslim nations in order to enslave them. PSG also needs to be looked at, paying 222m, 180m for players.
