Microsoft Announces Major Downsizing - 60,000 Affected

I have been unemployed for 18+ months and mostly because I refuse to ever go back to in-office work. Money is not bad because I made good money and am frugal. Plus wife earns.
I can't imagine the indignity of hauling my stuff out of an office after getting fired.

I have been fired couple of times. both times rebounded with bigger pay packages

In USA, it is at will employment. it depends on why they are firing you. you can get used to it. the first time was a shock. 10% across the board cut.

The second time, the VP was kind enough to help me pick up my stuff and walk me out. he said he was sorry to do this. It was budget issues at the company. he wasn't lying. he left 3 months later. company had to fire most of the workers. In fact, he become a good friend of mine.

the key is to manage personal finances and your career

Indians collect the crumbs of the cake that fall off the table , it's easier and cheaper to get rid of them.
Indians in India are a lot cheaper than American employees. Companies are in business of making money

India is making $300 billion off the technology sector. It is the main reason they have not gone to the IMF since 1990.

They will announce the cuts by country because Microsoft UK and Microsoft India are different entities

In my experiance big cuts are announced globally all at the same time. With large corps anyway. Stuff like time zones, local law etc are taken care of. Only thing that will be different is severence packages and process, as then companies have to abid by local law.

In the case of my old company they got rid of US staff straight away with 3 months. Paris office was made redundent but a year later everyone there was on full pay and not working. Insane

US has at will employment. French are French

We had a senior manager let go with shocker last yr, he came in for a regular day, held his meetings with finance in the morning as usual and then afternoon bam!
All of a sudden we got some mailer-daemon emails about his email inbox, thats how we found. But heard they made it good pkg for him to coast him over to his retirement.

These days its by email and its ruthless. They don't waste time as they usually have a long list to do the layoffs, not 1 or 2. All of a sudden emaill, phone everything is locked out.
Bro the way you describe it is as though the system is automated, maybe employing AI to do this dirty job:mad:

All correct.

Ai changes the game where low cost of people is not the value add as it once was, as all of sudden you can automate the low paying jobs with Ai. The value is in the high end with product and business knowledge, innovation being the key factors, and those have always remained in the west.

Ai will hit the back off the hardest, and the back office of the world is India right now with business process services outsourcing being its bread and butter.

I know of teams that have hired more Product owners, and business analysts and massively reduced their engineering staff, who these days just sit on top of Claude Code... How long before Product owners, and business analysts don't even need the engineering staff ?
I think we will know by next year December how the future holds for office jobs. Whether India offices innovate / rediscover themself or get washed out. My generation has to work as only Avenue to manage food on the plate. The current generation have house, savings of parents and so are not that committed workers / have attitude ( my apology for generalizing ). AI also has cost and those cost is a factor for replacing humans. I will give you latest example...my niece got a job in TCS and she she gets INR 30000 pay per month. She is an engineering graduate. INR 30000 correspond to Euro 300 per month. Now she is smart , versatile, better educated than I was and so Euro 300 is cost which for human , is peanuts for an American Corporation. I think , we may look forward tona world where we expect AI to support middle / senior management with no junior / beginners but but...what if the corporate plan to have AI to work with novice and replace high cost middle and senior management. Anything is possible and we can expect unexpected stuff.

The most complex of work has also been outsourced to India , decades back....and they continue to do it even now....Suggest you ask these questions to AI and remove your hearsay knowledge. If you don't do this basic, AI will replace you faster than your colleague sitting next to you.

Due to IT jobs, Indians are leaving USA and going back to Indian.

Just like Microsoft, Pakistan should cut 70% of federal and provincial jobs because Ai doesn't lie, Ai doesn't do corruption and Ai doesn't do money laundering.
Bilkul yaar.....right on de maany!

while i don't disagree with what you said, but i just have a bad feeling about this, specially when so many are warning us.
Who can afford to spend when we have no jobs left? We will become "useless eaters" to the global elites and they will want to get rid of most of us (depopulate).
That means no jobs at all.....

the datacenters are already gobbling up the drinkable water which is our biggest necessity for sustaining life....if there are shortages we're doomed
