It is getting really ugly.
Sikhs did not form a majority anywhere in Punjab to be able to form their own state. They were always a minority even in their holiest cities like Amritsar. The British further outright rejected the request of Tara Singh that Sikhs be given their own state.I wonder if Sikhs - at some fundamental level - regret "missing out" in 1947 when an opportunity was there for them to take a homeland for themselves.
Jinnah, Iqbal, Nehru, Gandhi, Golwalkar had all generated influence - by hugely different mechanisms - over the British to achieve their various ends, again to varying degrees of success.
Sikhs were always, since their inception, a simple gun for hire, co-opted by hindus and by the British for their own agendas (even by Mughals at times). The reason this is important is that nothing has changed. In the subcontinent they had willingly adopted the label of "dharmic" to please one master. Today they think they are "judeochristian values saar!" to please the Reform Party and Tommy Robinson.

"I am going to my local Gurdwara to make sure no one comes near that space, and I am going to protect the permiter. If anyone brings any violence to my house of prayer, it is going to be utter and extreme violence."
