ঘটনার বিবরণ:

গত ১ জানুয়ারি (বৃহস্পতিবার) গভীর রাতে শায়েস্তাগঞ্জ থানা এলাকায় এক ব্যক্তিকে (এনামুল হাসান নয়ন) আটক করে পুলিশ।
পরদিন ২ জানুয়ারি দুপুরে তার মুক্তির দাবিতে থানা ঘেরাও করেন বৈষম্যবিরোধী ছাত্র আন্দোলনের নেতাকর্মীরা।
ওই সময় মাহদী হাসান ওসির কক্ষে গিয়ে উত্তপ্ত বাক্য বিনিময় করেন। সামাজিক যোগাযোগমাধ্যমে ভাইরাল ভিডিওতে তিনি বলেন:
“আমাদের এখানে ১৭ জন শহীদ হয়েছে। বানিয়াচং থানা কিন্তু আমরা পুড়িয়ে দিয়েছিলাম। এসআই সন্তোষ চৌধুরীকে জ্বালিয়ে দিয়েছিলাম।”

ভিডিওটি ছড়িয়ে পড়ার পর ব্যাপক সমালোচনা ও প্রতিক্রিয়া দেখা দেয়।
পরদিন ৩ জানুয়ারি (শনিবার) বিকেলে ডিবি পুলিশ তাকে হবিগঞ্জ শহর থেকে গ্রেফতার করে।
গ্রেফতারের পর হবিগঞ্জ সদর মডেল থানায় তার বিরুদ্ধে মামলা দায়ের করা হয়।
একই দিন সন্ধ্যায় তার সমর্থকরা হবিগঞ্জ সদর থানা ঘেরাও করে বিক্ষোভ করেন এবং মুক্তির দাবি জানান।
পরবর্তীতে আদালত তাকে জামিন দেন (প্রায় ২০০ টাকা মুচলেকায়)।
পুলিশের বক্তব্য:
হবিগঞ্জের পুলিশ সুপার ইয়াসমিন খাতুন জানান, মাহদী হাসানকে পুলিশের কাজে বাধা দেওয়া, হুমকি দেওয়া এবং আইনশৃঙ্খলা ভঙ্গের অভিযোগে গ্রেফতার করা হয়েছে। এটি রাজনৈতিক প্রতিহিংসা নয়, বরং আইনি প্রক্রিয়া।

বৈষম্যবিরোধী ছাত্র আন্দোলনের অবস্থান:
সংগঠনটির নেতারা দাবি করেছেন, এটি রাজনৈতিক হয়রানি এবং জুলাই আন্দোলনের নেতাদের দমনের অংশ। তারা মাহদীর দ্রুত মুক্তি ও পুলিশের নিরপেক্ষতার দাবি জানিয়েছেন।

Everyone who murdered police officers, set fire to police stations, looted weapons, stored them illegally, and freed terrorists from jail will face severe punishment. The process has already started when from the day of the result the NCP mob brigades started to get beaten left, right and center and it's very likely to continue for the next 5 years.
