New Delhi approves $22 billion in military spending amid China border tensions

PUBLISHED WED, OCT 28 20268:11 PM EDT

KEY POINTS
  • India has approved spending 2.12 trillion rupees ($22 billion) to modernize its defense equipment on Monday.
  • New Delhi increasingly views Beijing as a threat, given the Sino-Pakistan military nexus, and the latest purchases are aimed at bridging the technological gap with China.
  • The U.S., Israel, Russia and Korea are likely to find substantial opportunities in India’s expanding defense market.

This seems to be on the table.

1. Drone & Counter-Drone Systems:
Substantial investments are dedicated to long-range drone systems, platform based counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS), and integrated surveillance and strike drone networks.

2. Air Defence & Artillery:
Procurement includes very short range air defence systems (VSHORADS) alongside mobile selfpropelled tracked gun systems to enhance the firepower and agility of mechanised units in mountainous regions.

3. High-Altitude Logistics:
The military cleared orders for high mobility vehicles and light multirole utility helicopters to swiftly transport troops, reconnaissance tools, and supplies across the Himalayan terrain.

4. Naval & Air Upgrades:
The package also features Active Offboard Decoy Systems to defend naval ships against antiship missiles, alongside mobile X-band Doppler weather radars to track atmospheric conditions in frontline forward positions.

It also includes the K9 artillery bought from South Korea.

This is a follow up order on the 200 ish K9s India already has.

Most of "approved" buys never get bought.

36 follow on Rafale order "approved" not bought
2 Extra Phalcon AEW "approved" not bought
6 A330 MRTT Tankers "approved" not bought

etc etc

$22 billion?

After India’s "Commissioner Singhs" have taken their cuts at every level, it would be a stroke of great luck if even $10 billion of that actually reached its intended destination.

Its India we are talking about, they will never fire at China despite countless provocations. Their build up is for Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Maldives and Sri Lanka. India want to become super power in south asia.
