Giulliani was elected because of the crime back in the 90s happening in the NYC, and he does not really practice Right leaning policy while a mayor of NYC, he supported Gun Control in NYC by suing Gun Manufacturer

You can technically say he is a left-leaning centrist then when he was the mayor of NYC (which he displayed that quality during his mayorship of New York City), was it all an act, knowing what we know now? I don't know.
And Bloomberg got elected as Republican (Which is the only time NYC elected GOP candidate back to back in 186 years) because of 9/11, and he ran as an independent after the first term.
NYC is seriously blue now, hell will be frozen over before they elect another GOP mayor.

"We may consider closing our supermarkets and selling the business," said 76-year-old billionaire John Catsimatidis of Gristedes Supermarkets, adding "We have other businesses. Thank God, we have other businesses."
He also suggested that his real estate conglomerate - Red Apple Group, may move to New Jersey too.

Jewish New Yorkers exist across the full spectrum of political views. Brad Lander, the highest elected Jewish official in New York endorsed Mamdani, and many liberal Jewish New Yorkers like what Mamdani is trying to do; focus on the issues and not get bogged down in fake culture wars.
At the same time the echo chamber of many right wing extremist Jewish New Yorkers are calling Mamdani a “Jihadi”.
Mamdani is leftist. Politically but also socially. He is a live and let live kind of Muslim.
Also, see the work of his wife, whom he met on Hinge, last year if I’m not mistaken, and married earlier this year. She is an animator of Syrian origin who works with artists that advocate for women’s rights within Islamic family law. Mamdani is surrounded by strong and people focused on ethics.
He lives within the modest means of his job. He rents his apartment. He went to Bronx High School of Science. A school you can only get in through an academic entrance exam, similar to the SATs, on one score, ranked against all other students, so on merit.
Btw, when he got threats on his life, specifically threats to bomb his car if I’m not mistaken, he said that’s odd because he doesn’t own a car and uses the subway. ;p
I got to meet him a couple of years ago, very humble guy. Good optimistic vibes.

It’s about the right kind of exposure that changes perceptions. The mayorship of New York is a big soapbox, to change how people see Muslims and South Asians.
Inshallah, if he wins, it could go a long way in helping to close many of the wounds of 9/11 in the city, in terms of Islamophobia, but also interfaith dialogue, in a real and ernest manner.

Indeed. It’s just scare tactics. As long as the city is safe from the untreated mentally ill and the economy is growing in a healthy way. Most wealth will prefer to stay in New York. It’s a premium location if it’s kept up like a premium location. Congestion pricing for example improves travel times for the wealthy that can pay the fair. Free buses speeds up buses, because fares don’t have to be taken or even asked for, which again benefits all drivers. Mamdani can work towards making building easier, and that will bring investment into the city to build all kinds of housing.

He talked to New Yorkers that voted for Trump in 2024, who had voted for Biden in 2020. Cost of living is out of control.
His platform has been to try to deal With that red tape, which he might be able to make a difference, in doing business in the city, and whose costs get passed on to consumers. We don’t need as many middle man, red tape, and policies holding back development.
He will need to work on public safety, but will at least have a year with a friendly governor, running for reelection herself to try to make head way in 2026 if he’s elected.
We New Yorkers know the fears of a return to the BLM environment, but having gone through 2020, he is no longer defund the police.
Silwa and Cuomo campaigns work in a city with growing crime, so they may have a chance. Mamdani will have to get serious on crime fighting, and needs to have a plan from day 1.
Adams will get the blame for the increase crime and not being able to manage it. See the graph of the increase in crime starting when Adams was elected. Adams (and DA Bragg) is perceived, by criminals, as soft on crime.
Coumo signed the 2019 end to Cash Bail, and that contributed to crime.
Sliwa is the most “innocent” of the three challengers to Mamdani, but Curtis has his own out of step ideas on other topics, many New Yorkers wouldn’t want to sign onto.
The solution to crime in NYC, is maximizing employment for residents. Mamdani will also have to put the fear of the law back into criminals but in a measured way as not to antagonize the public.
He has to get the balance right, to create the virtuous cycle of safety, employment and economic prosperity to make New York the go to place. He will get a great opportunity with the world cup scheduled to have its final match near town in 2026. A great opportunity to push for changes that might not other wise be seen as palliative.
If Hochul and Mamdani pull it off, she could win re-election, and be able to support him through his full 5 year term.
FDR realized, taking care of the working class, through the new deal, made capitalism healthier. New Yorkers need to be able to stretch a buck again to have hope, and not become desperate. Desperation leads to crimes.

Plus how many private companies are going to allow labour unions for their companies if they care that much about the working class !
