New York poised for first South Asian - origin and Muslim mayor as Cuomo concedes to Mamdani

The issue is cyclical. Federal programs often prioritize politically visible or urgent causes, such as resettlement for latin American migrants, over basic infrastructure needs in long-standing neighborhoods. That leads to a simple question: Why do those programs receive funding before fixing water systems or roads that have served communities for 50 years?

When asked, states often say, “These were federal funds, not part of our state budget.” Fine. But then the real issue lies in how the federal government allocates money. Instead of attaching dollars to specific programs, it should focus on properly funding its own departments and giving more direct, flexible support to states. Let states decide their own priorities.

If Oregon or Colorado want to invest differently than Texas, that should be up to their elected state representatives. At least the decisions are being made by people who live in and answer to that population.

At the local level, even if we come from very different backgrounds or have opposing views, we are still neighbors. That makes it more likely we’ll talk, disagree, resolve issues, or at worst, live with the consequences of our local choices. What matters is that those choices are made close to the people affected, not by someone far removed from our community.

The same logic applies to any state. If New Yorkers choose a more progressive model, let them. They will experience the results in real time and vote accordingly. The same principle should apply to every other state.

When the federal government overreaches, it encourages states to do the same. That often results in local governments being overwhelmed or misaligned with the real needs of their communities. The farther removed the decision-makers are, the less effective and accountable the system becomes.
In my local area, it is the local decision makers being audited.

The feds are doing the audit. Most likely it is over the $1.5 million federal grant last fall to improve our water system.

The new water tower (can see it from my yard) looks like it has stopped construction.

The police, and other local government officials suddenly got all new vehicles after the water grant.

Local corruption.

Folks don't get hope too high if past is prologue, Obama and AOC had similar populist rhetoric and policy promises before getting elected. Mamdani will most likely fall in a similar trap...

First sign of this is he's just hired an ex-Obama and Dem party insider as a spokesperson...

But then it’s your community members right.
So then you can hold them accountable.
If you aren’t then its your fault.
Instead of the federal grant that perhaps was applied to without state control and knowhow of local areas its a federal program that anyone could access and by the time it gets figured out its too late.

Socialism only works if you aren’t crushing the middle class to fund it. Tax breaks only works if it goes across the board with process cleanup.
You want socialism - provide accountability on government processes instead of bloated waste and corruption.
You can tax billionaires to death and if you still lose 60% of it in bloated processed, this tick and that stamp - and this fees and other misappropriation. It matters not.
Billionaires will still be ok - but the middle class that actually runs this country instead of food stampers and urchins will suffer. Fat use any uplift will be for those folks you’re going to drive more middle class to poverty.

@Davey Crockett @AZ_HighCountry
Shit you not - not even a mile stretch was updated nearby. $8 million.
Less than mile of recarpeting at best.
Having been to DEN as many times as I have, no reason whatsoever to doubt you.

Decreasing taxes and financial burdens on the middle class is a part of the process that leads to socialism, increasing them on the rich is also a part of the process.

As is accountability, which is a matter of governance, not exclusively a problem of socialism, but rather all forms of economic models.

Same thing with wasted spending.

Every form of government requires accountability and honesty, the difference is that with socialism you get equity rather than a divide among the people.

The middle class is already being driven to poverty by the current system, lifting the financial burden off of people will help to decrease that problem.

I'm not a utilitarian, but I'm also not an idiot who thinks that sacrifices don't have to be made for a more just system. It's just a matter of what the sacrifice is, and if it is morally right.

Given history, am confident -- not.
Actually, history backs me, not you.
Difference without distinctions.
There's a massive fucken difference, if there wasn't there wouldn't be different terminology.

You're good at military aviation, stick to that, not political ideology.
My condolences.
Considering how unchecked capitalism and corporate grewd is killing America and Americans, I should be saying that to you.

Actually, history backs me, not you.
What socialist countries are/were successful?

You're good at military aviation, stick to that, not political ideology.
Actually, I have the advantage.

Military personnel lives civilian lives but civilians cannot live military lives.

As if communist countries never killed.

The GOP is light years removed now from Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt.

What socialist countries are/were successful?
Literally every single one.

Let me remind you again, socialism and communism are not the same.
Actually, I have the advantage.
No, you do not.
Military personnel lives civilian lives but civilians cannot live military lives.
This has to do with knowledge, and has nothing to do with civilian and military living.

Besides, your attempt at whataboutism just shows you don't actually have an answer, so you're attempting to divert the attention away.

Stick to your expertise.

I know nothing about the navy, so I don't talk about it.
As if communist countries never killed.
Again, communist is not the same as socialist.

Why take a shot at the President? The NYT, the great bastion of liberalism, itself has effectively endorsed Cuomo.

Literally every single one.
Examples...

Let me remind you again, socialism and communism are not the same.

Again, communist is not the same as socialist.
Real world experience said otherwise, the most recent example is Venezuela.

The FACT that every claimed socialism country devolved to communism quite means they are the same. Saying socialism is not communism is akin to believing that North Korea or East Germany were 'democratic' because they had the word 'Democratic' in their names. You are just engaging in meaningless wordplay to save face for communism.

Examples...
Most of western Europe have some form of socialism, major or minor. From state owned institutions, social welfare and safety nets, to universal healthcare, cheap housing due to direct government involvement...etc.
Real world experience said otherwise, the most recent example is Venezuela.
Venezuela has had sanctions placed on it, ruining it's economy. Sanctions tend to do that to any economy, socialist or capitalist.
The FACT that every claimed socialism country devolved to communism quite means they are the same.
Uh no.

seriously, this proves that you have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to politics.
Saying socialism is not communism is akin to believing that North Korea or East Germany were 'democratic' because they had the word 'Democratic' in their names. You are just engaging in meaningless wordplay to save face for communism.
Its literally you who's doing this, not me.

I'm not engaging in word play, you are by saying one ideology is the exact same as another.

They are not the same.
