'No one is safe': China’s war on corruption sees record purge of senior officials in 2023

Every country may have a dark history in the past, what does that have to do with this topic happening right now?
Because what is happening now is exactly what the communists have done periodically many times before.

China has a whole ministry for this anti corruption job. Do you really know how Chinese government work and how the government help China register the fastest growth rate in the whole human history?

no one is safe, except Xi
No laws are 100% impartial, especially for those who have power and money, this is true in China, it's true in US, but in China high ranking officials are more likely to be targeted by the party disciplinary ministry, money doesn't buy power in China, tycoons have to constantly watch their back.

The real question here is where are all these corrupt officials coming from? Is it the authority they enjoy without checks or balances the root cause of the problem and only the symptom is being treated for appearances?

Where there are humans , there are corruption, tell me one country which doesn't have.

You think "democratic" India or Pakistan have less corruption than China?
It's human nature, whichever systems of governance don't matter.

But why do communists regimes avoid check and balances on authority? That is the root cause on topic in this thread.

Chinese communist party does have check and balance within the party, probably more so than many western countries. Chinese communist party is different from the one of the former USSR, it absorbs so much elements from the Chinese traditional way of governance and actually made a whole new system independent from either USSR style communism or western style capitalism.

USSR Style communism and western style democray both first grew in their respective cultures, they have the right culture, mindset, history... combined together to make them happen.

In China we have different culture, history, mentality, values, we don't have the right soil for those western style governance to take roots and grow, so we have to change them first, the same way we changed Buddhism when it first arrived in China, it's changed to fit in the Chinese culture and society.

The current Chinese governance system is a mixture of many elements and is still evolving and changing with time, it has stablised in the past two decades but by no means being stagnant.

The reason that China achieved so much a success in development in the past 2-3 decades is we always adjust and fine tune ourselves to keep up with the changing situations.

And for western style check and balance, it's never part of our highly efficient traditional style of governance, Chinese culture focus more on unity and efficiency, western style check and balance didn't come from our Chinese culture and doesn't work in this culture either.

That is great, and yet there is still the need for periodic purges like this, just like previously during the period of communist rule in China.

It's not periodic, the disciplinary ministry is always there, and the number is pretty even, around 1 million every 2 years, for at least 2 decades already.

LOL. Around one million every two years, for at least two decades already? That is pretty periodic by definition! :D

If so everything is "periodic", US president term is only for 4 years.

And that has NOTHING to do with this topic. :D

The purges in China on the basis of what is claimed to be corruption indeed are periodic.

No , it's not, the disciplinary ministry is always there, and every year more or less similar number of officials are probed or punished. if you call it periodic, then every law in every country is periodic.

I think my point stands. We can move on. :D
