Nusantara will be political capital starting from 2028 inshaAllah. This is already under latest President Prabowo direction (under Presidential Regulation (Peraturan President/Perpres no 79 year 2025)

I would say it is likely delayed until 2030 for the President, ministries, and parliament members to start living there

Basically it is ideal to move political capital to Kalimantan under current digitalized world where meeting can be done online, instead of offline

But for better mobility, I suggest for each ministries and also parliamentary to order N219 planes to improve the mobility since I think trips to Jakarta and other region within Indonesia will be pretty frequent for ministries and parliament top officials. Indonesian Air Force should be the operator of the plane.

Modern Islamic Education Hub

The Summarecon Al Azhar Nusantara project is a strategic collaboration between PT Summarecon Agung Tbk and Al Azhar, one of Indonesia’s most prominent Islamic education institutions.

With a total investment of Rp 150 billion, the school is designed as a modern educational facility that integrates Islamic values, cutting-edge technology, and eco-friendly concepts.

The groundbreaking ceremony was held on June 4, 2024, led by President Joko Widodo, alongside Adrianto P. Adhi, Director Herman Nagaria, and Edi Darnadi, Chairman of the Syiar Bangsa Foundation.

This school is part of Summarecon’s broader commitment to supporting the government’s development of IKN, particularly through high-quality education infrastructure.

Strong Educational Heritage

YPI Al Azhar was chosen as a partner for its 72 years of experience and credibility as a pioneer of modern Islamic schooling in Indonesia.

Through collaboration with the Syiar Bangsa Foundation, founded by Summarecon in 2012, the partnership has produced four successful Al Azhar schools in Summarecon Bekasi (2013), Serpong (2018), Bandung (2021), and Makassar (2022), serving a total of 3,000 students.

The IKN campus will become the fifth in this network, reinforcing Summarecon’s reputation for educational excellence.

Green Architecture and Learning Spaces

Located in the Public Service Facilities Subzone (SPU 1) of IKN, the school will occupy 2.9 hectares.

Its design adopts a stilt-house architectural style that blends seamlessly with nature, in line with IKN’s green city vision.

The school will feature green open spaces, an amphitheater, and interactive learning areas that promote outdoor education.

It will offer programs from elementary (SD) to junior high (SMP) and senior high school (SMA) levels, complete with sports fields, laboratories, a multipurpose hall, and a botanical lab for hands-on learning.

NUSANTARA, KOMPAS.com — After completing the main foundations and the Presidential Palace, Indonesia’s new capital, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), has now entered Phase II (2025–2028) — a stage marked by unprecedented construction intensity.

The goal is ambitious: by 2028, all Trias Politica facilities — encompassing the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial office complexes — must be fully functional.

To meet this accelerated target, the IKN Authority announced a massive mobilization: 20,000 construction workers will be deployed to boost progress.

“This surge in workforce is a clear signal that IKN has passed the point of no return and is moving from planning to reality,” said officials from the IKN Authority.

Accelerated Construction Effort

IKN Authority Head Basuki Hadimuljono confirmed that development in Phase II will proceed rapidly following the issuance of Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 79 of 2025.

“The increase in workforce is key to acceleration. In the initial phase, IKN involved around 7,000 workers, but in Phase II, we’re mobilizing up to 20,000 workers in the Central Government Core Area (KIPP),” Basuki said on Wednesday (Oct 29, 2025).

Focus on Core Government Complexes

The massive labor force will concentrate on completing two key institutional hubs:

  • Legislative Complex (DPR/MPR/DPD): Built on 42 hectares with a Rp 8.5 trillion budget.
  • Judicial Complex (MA/MK/KY): Built on 15 hectares with a Rp 3.1 trillion budget.

Construction of both complexes, beginning in November 2025, is targeted for completion in just 25 months.

Beyond Buildings: A Complete Ecosystem

Phase II involves not only government buildings but also essential community infrastructure to support the first wave of civil servant relocation scheduled for 2025.

Priority projects include:

  • National Mosque and Nusantara Basilica – Symbols of IKN’s commitment to spiritual life, targeted for completion and operation by late 2025.
  • KIPP Road Connectivity – Development of road networks in Sub-Zones 1B and 1C to ensure efficient mobility between civil servant housing and government offices.
  • Basic and Public Facilities – Supporting utilities and social infrastructure to accommodate the growing population in the capital’s core area.

This massive mobilization marks a defining moment in the nation’s effort to realize IKN as a functional, sustainable, and modern capital city within just a few years.

There is big and clean river near the city, so in term of water source, it is likely pretty safely secured. Just need water treatment facility and water pipe network.

Currently the water source inside the city still rely on more than 30 small dams inside the city that are adequate to support first bach of civil servants relocation from Jakarta.

Jakarta. The development of Indonesia’s new legislative and judicial districts in the future capital, Nusantara, has officially entered the construction stage after the government completed the signing of all 20 contracts under the second phase of projects slated for 2025–2029.

The milestone follows the signing of eight additional contract packages on Thursday, bringing the total to 20 after the government previously finalized 12 packages for the same phase. The completed agreements pave the way for physical construction to begin in East Kalimantan’s rapidly expanding new capital zone.

Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) head Basuki Hadimuljono said the newly signed contracts cover key infrastructure required to establish the country’s political and judicial hubs.

“The eight contracts signed on Thursday include five packages for legislative office buildings and zones consisting of 16 buildings on a 41.81-hectare plot,” Basuki said during a visit to Nusantara on Saturday, as quoted by state news agency Antara.

Two other packages cover the construction of four buildings and the judicial office complex on a 15.15-hectare site. The remaining package includes supporting facilities: the second phase of the OIKN office complex, consisting of three buildings on 2.9 hectares, and the first phase of the Nusantara Police Resort headquarters, which will also comprise three buildings on a 3.07-hectare site.

Basuki said the quality and sustainability of the construction work remain a top priority. “We are prioritizing quality, aesthetics, and environmental sustainability in every stage of development,” he said. “This second phase must be better than the first. I believe this project will set an example for the world.”

The contract signings mark a major step in preparing the sites destined to house Indonesia’s legislative and judicial institutions from 2028 onward. The progress also accelerates the overall timeline of the second development phase.

“To date, 20 of the 28 work packages under the 2025–2029 second phase have been signed, consisting of 14 physical construction packages and six construction management and supervision packages,” Basuki said.

The total budget allocated for the legislative and judicial district development amounts to Rp 12 trillion, financed under a multiyear funding scheme.

“This development is part of the government’s priority agenda to build modern, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure in Nusantara,” Basuki said.

NUSANTARA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesia’s new capital, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), has truly emerged as a new tourism icon at the end of 2025.

Acting like a magnet, the Core Government Center Area (KIPP) recorded a remarkable surge in visitor numbers.

According to Alimuddin, Deputy for Social, Cultural, and Community Empowerment at the IKN Authority, a total of 37,000 people flooded the IKN area, with vehicle volume reaching 10,000 units.

1767061291058.png

“This enthusiasm is not merely a statistic, but a tangible representation of the Indonesian people’s pride in the new face of the nation’s governmental center, which embraces the Forest City concept,” Alimuddin told Kompas.com on Saturday (December 27, 2025).

The IKN area was packed with vehicles, reaching a volume of 10,000 units on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025.

According to Alimuddin, the surge in visitors was driven by several factors.

First, public curiosity about the physical progress of Garuda Palace and the State Palace, both of which now stand majestically.

Second, the year-end holiday period encouraged families to use the opportunity as an educational tourism experience, allowing them to witness firsthand how the future of Indonesia’s civilization is being built.

Public curiosity regarding the impressive progress of Garuda Palace and the State Palace has become the primary driver behind the spike in visits to IKN.

The density of vehicles—reaching 10,000 units—also indicates that accessibility to IKN continues to improve, attracting visitors not only from East Kalimantan but also from various provinces across Indonesia.

Visualization of Modern Infrastructure

Through a series of visual documentations captured on camera, it is evident how IKN is transforming into an inclusive public space.

1767061610388.png

One of the warmest moments was the presence of Basuki Hadimuljono, Head of the IKN Authority, mingling with the crowd. He was seen interacting warmly and even carrying a toddler belonging to one of the visitors.

Despite the large number of vehicles, parking management—both in multi-story parking facilities and along the main roads—appeared orderly and well-managed.

Wide pedestrian pathways comfortably accommodated thousands of pedestrians amid IKN’s fresh air.

1767061262763.png

The presence of popular outlets such as Mixue and Excelso, which were crowded with long queues, demonstrates that the microeconomic ecosystem has begun to thrive vigorously in the KIPP area. IKN is no longer merely a construction project, but a city that is coming to life.

Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Nusantara, the country’s future capital in East Kalimantan, on Monday evening to inspect the progress of construction and assess readiness of key infrastructure, underscoring the government’s commitment to the relocation of the administrative center from Jakarta.

Prabowo landed at the Garuda Palace helipad in the Nusantara area at around 6:45 p.m. local time and was welcomed by Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) head Basuki Hadimuljono and senior officials. The president is scheduled to stay overnight and on Tuesday visit several strategic development sites across the new capital zone. The visit follows Prabowo’s earlier inauguration of the Balikpapan Refinery, a flagship energy project led by state-owned oil company Pertamina.

Accompanying the president were Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Foreign Minister Sugiono, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Presidential Communications Office head Angga Raka Prabowo.

Nusantara, officially designated as Indonesia’s future capital in 2022, is being developed to replace Jakarta as the country’s administrative center. The government has planned a phased relocation of state institutions and civil servants, aligned with the gradual completion of core infrastructure over the coming years.

By 2028, Indonesia is expected to effectively operate with two capitals with distinct roles. Jakarta will remain the country’s official capital under Law No. 2/2024 and continue serving as the economic, business, and cultural hub. Nusantara, meanwhile, has been designated as the political capital, where the executive, legislative, and judicial branches are expected to fully operate.

Parliamentary, Judicial Complexes in Nusantara to Be Ready Before 2028 Relocation

Construction momentum has accelerated in recent months. The development of Nusantara’s legislative and judicial districts officially entered the construction phase in December 2025, after the government completed the signing of all 20 contract packages under the second development phase covering 2025–2029. The agreements clear the way for full-scale physical construction in areas earmarked to house Indonesia’s parliament and courts from 2028 onward.

According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), nearly 150,000 people are now living in the broader Nusantara area, reflecting the growing economic and social footprint of the project as construction workers, civil servants, and supporting businesses move in.

The scale of public spending remains significant. The government allocated Rp 43.4 trillion ($2.69 billion) from the state budget in 2024 for Nusantara’s development, accounting for 97.3 percent of the Rp 44.5 trillion ceiling for that year. The funds were directed toward core infrastructure, including the Garuda Palace complex, ministry offices, the Nusantara Authority headquarters, housing for civil servants, hospitals, and transport facilities such as toll roads, bridges, and airports.

Additional spending supported the Sepaku Semoi Reservoir area and flood control measures around Nusantara, Deputy Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara said previously.

The investment has had a measurable impact on the regional economy. East Kalimantan has emerged as Indonesia’s fastest-growing province, with economic growth of 4.5 percent in 2022, 6.2 percent in 2023, and 6.2 percent again in the third quarter of 2024, despite pressure from weaker coal and crude palm oil prices.

The open unemployment rate in the province fell to 5.14 percent in 2024, with about 129,000 new jobs created, bringing the total workforce to nearly 2 million. From 2022 to 2024, a cumulative Rp 75.8 trillion has been allocated to Nusantara’s development.

Key Points / Important Takeaways

  • 🇦🇪 Ayedh Dejem Group, a Dubai-based property and construction giant, has committed Rp 4 trillion to IKN.
  • 🏙️ The project covers 9.7 hectares in KIPP 1A, one of the most strategic and premium locations in the new capital.
  • 🏢 The development is a large-scale mixed-use project, including Grade-A offices, a world-class mall, premium commercial areas, and a mosque.
  • 🌍 The investment sends a strong signal to global and Middle Eastern investors about IKN’s economic credibility.
  • 📈 The decision is driven by confidence in Indonesia’s strong economic fundamentals and its G20 status.
  • 🗓️ Planning and permitting will take up to 1.5 years, with construction starting in mid-2027 and continuing for around five years.
  • ✅ The project reflects a real, structured, and long-term foreign investment, not just a paper agreement.

NUSANTARAIbu Kota Nusantara (IKN) has officially secured a prestigious investment commitment from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Ayedh Dejem Group, a major construction and property conglomerate from Dubai, has signed a cooperation agreement to develop a mixed-use integrated area valued at Rp 4 trillion.

This move sends a strong signal to global markets that IKN holds high economic value in the eyes of Middle Eastern investors, who are known for being highly selective and focused on large-scale projects.

Conquering the Heart of KIPP

The Rp 4 trillion investment will be focused on 9.7 hectares of land located in KIPP 1A (Core Government Area), one of the most strategic zones within IKN.

The location is considered highly premium, situated directly next to Plaza Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, a key landmark in the new capital city.

Ayedh Dejem Group plans to transform the site into a modern urban ecosystem, consisting of:

  • Grade-A office complexes
  • A world-class shopping mall
  • Premium commercial areas
  • Religious facilities, including a mosque
The Chairman of Ayedh Dejem Group, Sheikh Ayedh Dejem, stated that the investment decision was driven by strong confidence in Indonesia’s improving economic fundamentals.

“Indonesia’s economic growth has been very significant. God willing, the economy in IKN will grow rapidly, and therefore requires large-scale projects to meet future demand,” he said during the signing ceremony on Friday, January 23, 2026.
He also emphasized the synergy between two major economic powers. With Dubai’s role as a global financial hub and Indonesia’s position among the G20’s largest economies, the project is viewed as a strategic long-term investment.

Timeline and Construction Phases

Deputy for Funding and Investment at the Otorita Ibu Kota Nusantara (OIKN), Sudiro Roi Santoso, explained that the agreement was the result of a lengthy process that began with the signing of a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) in May 2025.

“The process will begin with detailed planning, permitting, and contractor tendering, which may take up to one and a half years,” Sudiro said.
According to the roadmap:

  • Physical construction is scheduled to begin in mid-2027
  • Development will continue gradually over the next five years
This confirms that foreign investment in IKN is not merely symbolic, but represents a measurable and phased development commitment.

IKN to Build a World-Class Concert Hall, Construction Targeted to Start in 2027

Key Points / Important Takeaways

  • 🎼 IKN plans a world-class Concert Hall, part of the Nusantara Cultural Center.
  • 🏗️ Construction is targeted to begin as early as 2027, subject to budget readiness.
  • 🏆 “Cerlang Nusantara” won the design competition, selected from 35 proposals.
  • 🧠 The design fuses megalithic Nusantara heritage with modern, progressive architecture.
  • 🌳 Strong emphasis on indoor–outdoor integration, aligned with IKN’s forest-city vision.
  • 💰 Funding will combine state budget (APBN) and potential private investment.
  • 🤝 The IKN Authority owns the copyright and encourages collaborative refinement.
  • 🌏 The Concert Hall positions IKN as a cultural hub, not merely an administrative capital.

NUSANTARAIbu Kota Nusantara (IKN) is preparing to strengthen its position as a beacon of a new civilization by introducing a global-scale performing arts facility.

The Otorita Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN Authority) plans to develop a world-class Concert Hall as part of the Nusantara Cultural Center precinct, with physical construction targeted to begin as early as 2027.

This ambitious plan emerged after the Nusantara Cultural Center design competition reached its conclusion on Friday (January 30, 2026).

The design titled “Cerlang Nusantara”, created by Tim Gregorius (Yori) Antar Awal, was officially declared the first-place winner, outperforming 34 other architectural proposals through a rigorous curation process that blends megalithic historical values with a forward-looking vision.

Development Priorities and Funding Scheme

Head of the IKN Authority, Basuki Hadimuljono, explained that the Concert Hall is one of six main buildings planned within the cultural complex.

Currently, the authority is reviewing the Detailed Cost Estimate (RAB) to determine development priorities amid budget availability.

“We need to review the cost estimates first, then assess the available budget. If it doesn’t happen this year, the earliest realization would likely be in 2027,” Basuki told Kompas.com.
He added that the government will differentiate projects funded by the state budget (APBN) from those opened to private investment.

Basuki signaled that sports facilities and the Concert Hall are likely to become early development priorities.

“Which ones can we do first? It appears the Concert Hall and sports facilities, so talented individuals have a space to showcase their abilities,” he said.

The Philosophy of “Cerlang Nusantara”

The selected design carries a deep philosophical concept.

Jury member Wiendu Nuryanti stated that the design’s greatest strength lies in its bold transformation of Indonesia’s oldest traditions into a modern, progressive form.

“One of its strongest aspects is how it transforms traditional values—such as megalithic culture—into something quantum-like, accelerating progress while retaining strong Nusantara architectural roots,” Wiendu explained.
Another jury member, Wicaksono Sarosa, highlighted the inclusive spatial concept of the design.

The layout minimizes boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, making it highly compatible with IKN’s forest-city vision and tropical climate.

“People can walk freely in and out of the entire area. Most cultural activities can later be carried out outdoors,” Wicaksono added.

Collaboration and Copyright

Despite selecting a main winner, the IKN Authority remains open to broad collaboration to refine the building’s function during implementation.

Basuki confirmed that the design copyright now belongs fully to the IKN Authority.

“The copyright is owned by the Authority. It doesn’t have to be only the first-place winner—we can collaborate. It will certainly become better,” he emphasized.
With the development of this world-class Concert Hall, IKN is being positioned not only as a government administrative center, but also as a dynamic cultural and public space—where Indonesian society can interact, express creativity, and celebrate progress without losing its traditional roots.
