Old Man's Corners

LOL....there were those too.
Heard about that one through my classmates.

Wasn't until 1986 when I was laid off, heading to Lansing to file for unemployment, I drove past it.

Blizzard that morning, 16 year old black girl with no license rear ended my Trans Am in Lansing. Told her to get lost.

Stood in line for three hours.

On my way back, said what the hell, stopped in at the XXX drive-in theater that's open year around.

Has anyone done a cross-country road trip?
West to East or vice versa 🤔

Define cross-country.

If you mean coast-2-coast, no. But, I've done several from PA to AZ and AZ to OH.

Since the AZ-OH trips were for trips to Camp Perry, always took the most direct route. Coming home allowed for flexibility. One year came back across I-80 then somewhere in Kansas dropped down to I-70 and took it to the state route at Littleton to drop down to Ft. Collins and back onto the 25.

Will make a note later to post the mapped routes here.

THE music...

Born in South Africa in 1958. Saw history change over the years. Never saw a television until 1977. Idolized American technology but hated its fast moving culture. Was told on a daily basis that the Russians are bad and are out to install a wicked evil system in the world. First music I can recall listening to on a vinyl record around 1970 was Fleetwood Mac

Fleetwood Mac's early years, from 1967 to around 1974, saw the band evolve from a British blues outfit to a more diverse rock group. Key early albums include their self-titled debut (1968), "Mr. Wonderful" (1968), and "Then Play On" (1969). Some of their notable early songs include "Black Magic Woman," "Albatross," "Man of the World," and "Oh Well".

Here's a more detailed look at some of the songs and albums from that period:
Debut Album (1968):
"My Heart Beat Like a Hammer, "Merry Go Round, "Long Grey Mare, "Shake Your Moneymaker, and "Hellhound on My Trail.

"Mr. Wonderful" (1968):
  • This album continued with the blues-rock style, featuring tracks like "Stop Messin' Round" and "Dust My Broom".
"Then Play On" (1969):
  • This album marked a shift towards more progressive and experimental sounds. It included Peter Green's "Rattlesnake Shake," Danny Kirwan's "Coming Your Way," and the instrumental "Underway".

  • "Oh Well": (Parts 1 and 2) was a standout track from this era, showcasing both the band's blues roots and their willingness to experiment with longer, more complex song structures.

  • "The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)"

  • "Albatross": (a UK number-one single)
Other notable early songs:
  • "Black Magic Woman": (later a hit for Santana)
  • "Man of the World"
  • "Need Your Love So Bad"
The early years of Fleetwood Mac are characterized by the guitar-driven blues-rock sound of Peter Green, Danny Kirwan, and Jeremy Spencer, alongside the solid rhythm section of John McVie and Mick Fleetwood.
