The older design of Pakol barely resemble Kausia (ancient Macedonian hat). Its a coincidence that the modern design of Pakol happens to resemble Kausia a lot.
Sadly the original gates no longer exist - Interestingly the gates were part funded by the family that invested the Tonga Ambulance.
A tonga outside the Railway Station road - Rawalpindi Circa 1960's. Tonga stands were built around the city where the tonga's could rest inbetween rides.
Tongas remained popular as a means of public transport till the early 90's but fell out of favour due to the introduction of motorised mass transportation which inlucded motorised Rickshaws, wagons and busses. Surprisingly the city still had six tonga stands till the 00's.
Tonga in Rawalpindi
The Last remaining Tonga stand in Rawalpindi stood on Kashmir Road in Saddar, Rawalpindi - Also known as Chungi No.22. - This was a beautiful colonial shed constructed in the early 1930's - as tonga's fell out of favour - the sheds were used as storage for the many public transport vans as can be seen below:
Sadly this historic stand was demolished in 2014.
