These letters made by twisting iron are from the city’s ancient “Karachi Grammar School”. The founder of this school was Rev. H. Brereton, the first priest of Karachi. The school was established in 1847, that is, one hundred years before the establishment of Pakistan. In 1854 it was named the “Karachi European Andando Porpian School ( Kurrachee European and Indo-European School. )Laid in 1879 it was named “Karachi Grammar School”. It is the only school in Pakistan visited by Prince Philip in 1959. It was the first church mission school in United India. Its main building is two hundred years old and belongs to British soldiers It was also used as a barrack. Famous personalities who studied in the school included President Arif Alvi, Qazi Faiz Issi, Arif Naqvi, Asif Ali Zardari, Dr. Asim Hussain, Haroon Al Rashid, Dr. Ata ur Rehman, Benazir Bhutto, Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi, Abdullah Hussain Haroon, Maliha Lodhi, Murtaza Bhutto Nafeesa Shah, Nazia Hassan, Pervez Hood Bhai, Sharmain Ubaid Chennai, Sherry Rehman and Bilawal Bhutto are included. According to The News and Friday Time, film star Waheed Murad also studied from the same school.
