No common pakistani pashtoon is crossing border to go to Afghanistan. Afghan citizens and terrorists from both sides are only the one crossing border. There is no motivation among common pashtoon of KP and Pakistan to go to Afghanistan.
And please. Terrain is an issue but when you have business worth more than $10+ billion and have defence budget of 10-12 billion dollars. Then you need to justify that allocation and you need to manage it. Otherwise just slash the defence budget and leave it on Allah (just like these days we have).
And if border can not be controlled and properly maintained. Then people of KP in their villages will have 50 armed men knocking on their doors asking for shelter and food by threatening them and locals will have no option but to comply. And then army will come and they will arrest the same villagers for sheltering terrorists.

1:- no Pakistani Pushtoon isn't crossing the border... Wrong assumption, there is daily smuggling even today by both parties. The network is deep and in some places tolerated to maintain local support.
2:- " Terrain is an issue but when you have budget ", what do you even mean by this ? Does budget change the ground realities ? A 1 trillion dollar budget couldn't help the U.S occupation same goes for IOK... Throwing money doesn't solve all your problems... I think you knew that.. but couldn't avoid it out of habit....
3:- That's why you need an effective policing force but neither the provincial govt is ready to invest nor take help from Federal because you know why...where it has tried to bolster the police, it has failed and weapons ( such as drone jammers ) have even ended up in Taliban hands...
Policing varies from district to district and their strength and effectiveness depends upon local support...
Peshawar has fairly good policing..
Swat has good policing and this is due to firm rejection by locals to support Taliban...
Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda and Nowshera have good policing...
Kohat, Karak and Laki Marwat are pro Pak districts with heavy fighting...
Bannu was a swaying district but Talis have tightened the grip...
DI Khan was also a safe district but since removal of check posts has become hot area...
Mainly areas bordering Waziristan are becoming unstable...

since its reactionary attack just for public consumption fact is, no meaningful TTP,ISIS, JuA commander(s) have been taken out by our forces under this operation. Yes Talibans have been embarrassed and our attacks have shown their limited capacity against proper army but since US Iran war, we have been pretty much quite and only strikes when we are hit followed up by a pause until the next attack by the militants.

It's not always a question of open local complicity
It's that they cause problems for normal security deployments
So if we had this problem in Sindh or Punjab etc
If local police were being overwhelmed, then we would recruit more police and in the interim more forces would be allocated to the area
Most likely Rangers, and in extreme situation Army deployment
That gives the police time to build up, and additional security to confront the problem
Our problem in some of the backwards areas is the resistance to any sort of deployment, by both locals and political parties
Then we are talking about a relatively large area that runs from north KP, all the way down to Balochistan
And that requires significant deployment and resources to control over a naturally porous border
So you can reinforce one area, and the Afghans will just move 30 miles up the border and try to enter from another
I think the long term play is to better arm and train both local police and FC which is mostly local anyway and get them into a position where they can deal with the western border on their own without general army or other support and this is a ongoing process that will take time

The U.S/Iran war is hurting the Afghans even more
Because it means if both Pakistan and Iranian borders and ports are closed then Afghanistan has a big problem
The Afghans are hurtling towards a breaking point, where they will be forced to control their own terrorism or risk implosion

Economy is not an issue for Talibans, control and power is. Public sentiments are their least concern as their public doesn't have functioning democratic system.

BTW to all experts if India is going to any extent to infiltrate the terrorists, killing and destabilize us. Then Why we reactivate our assets there esp in east punjab. Hell with the using each others soil for terrorism.

But is USA asking its side of New Mexico and Arizona to leave their homes. And move to Colorado or Kensas because US military want to do a large scale operation in these bordering states for 20th time ????
If you think police is the answer to terrorists armed with night vision goggles, M4 and M16 guns, and no regard for life. Then I can not help you.
Intelligence of police can never be as good as CTD or ISI etc. Police in all these missions will be going blind and will hence lose more men than they are losing today.
And as Pakistanis we were taught that police is corrupt, politicians are a$sholes, awaam is jahil but the foaj is competent, sincere, trained and number one. So why should we now expect police to control this shit that is here just becaise we are unable to manage cross-border illegal movement ????
