Our Heroes - Pakistan Army

Major Bilal Rana, who sacrificed his life in the Chandpur sector on the night of December 7-8, 1971, at just 27 years old.

He was the SSG soldier who arrested Sheikh Mujeeb on March 25, 1971. Later, he volunteered to stay behind with a few soldiers to cover a retreating Pakistan army column. They defended a 5-mile line against thousands of Mukhti Bhanis for three days.

Despite the odds, he refused to surrender. The Indian Air Force eventually attacked his position, and he was killed in action at age 27. Major Bilal is buried in an unmarked grave in Dhaka, and Bangladesh has refused to return his remains. Pervez Musharraf named his son Bilal in his honor.

On 12 September, 1965 (Number 3445581) Lance Hav Khaki Jan was Commanding Recoil less Rifle detachment in the forward defended locality ground Khem Karan when Indians launched a battalion attack supported by a squadron of armour.

With heavy odds against him and particularly when there was only one Recoil-less Rifle (his) in the area it was indeed depressing to see the enemy tanks close up to round own infantry elements. Every thing looked gloomy but Lance Havaldar Khaki Jan kept his nerves, allowed the enemy to come well within the range and then with great determination, courage and fighting spirit knocked out three tanks.

He was hit by the fourth tank just as he was about to engage it. Khaki Jan's brave and timely action helped in bringing the enemy armour to a halt and beating back the enemy attack.
Lance Havaldar Khaki Jan was severely wounded and finally gave up his life in the gun position.

Lance Havaldar Khaki Jan displayed great courage and devotion to duty and loyalty to his comrades and Battalion.

He sacrificed his life for the country and saved the situation for his Battalion. He was awarded Tamgha E Jurat posthumously.
