Since we there has been an alleged photo of a J-10 carrying what apparently was a YJ-21 (or mock up or probably even a misidentified munition) it does beg the question of whether PAF should consider J-10s for anti-shipping roles + Maritime strike over the JF-17. It is after all a larger platform and can carry other weapons like the YJ-12.

I don't really see J-10s being used in precision ground strikes even if a second squadron is raised.

Maritime strike on the other hand is something I can see happening. And there will be a need for it once Vikrant is equipped with Rafale Ms

Just 1 observation mate about Rafale M... the first batch will be delivered in 2028... till then, as DCNS(O) said when silent guy broke his silence: "IN carriers are operationally irrelevant."

I think @Michael and some others have already pointed out that it wasn't probably a YJ-12... even with CM-400AKG and C-802 on Thunders, Indians aircraft carriers are at high risk with fleet defense by MiG-29K...

Some clarifications please, for PAF main roles now and expected in future:

J10s - air superiority
F16s - multi role and Air to Ground
Mirages - Anti ship
JF17 - multi role
F7s - CAP, point defence?

Future ( wish list)
F16Vs - multi role and Air to ground
J35 - Air superiority, deep strike, wingman control (Chinese drones)
Kaan - Air superiority, deep strike, wingman control (Turkish drones)

No we need a solution like Blue sparrow and Silver sparrow.
That's the true capability, it'll put entire mainland India within PAFs reach.

Both are NOT actual ballistic missiles. They are there to act as incoming BM to refine ARROW ADS. ROCKS missile is actual ALBM that uses Blue Sparrow's booster. But I got your point and that's why YJ-21E is important to discuss. It's also a ALBM after all.

Yes but not in Pakistan-India scenario has it lacks stand off weapons. It will be used in air superiority role only.

F7s and Mirages were planned to be retired in 2020s but due to needs and slow induction of replacement they will stay till 2030s. F16s if given upgrades and extended life will stay till atleast 2045.

Future till 2030 2045 will be:
F16s block 52s, V if possible
J10CE
J35s will be near 5.5th generation.
Jf17/Pfx
Kaan 5.5th will come 2040s with loyal wingman to replace older f16s.

Blue sparrow and Silver sparrow have a range of 2000 km as compared to 1500 km range for YJ-21E. However, the Blue/Silver Sparrows were developed and specialized as the target missiles.

On the other hand, for offensive strike capability against high-value naval and land targets, the YJ-21E is arguably better because it was specifically developed as a dedicated, operationally deployed hypersonic weapon, posing a significant challenge to existing air defense systems due to its extreme speed and maneuverability.

SOM is a full generation ahead of RAAD. Different leagues. Also, you can not use raad for conventional strikes as it’s nuclear configured. Using raad in a conventional war sends nuclear signaling which creates confusion as the Indians wouldn’t know if it’s nuke tipped or not.

It’s also why you couldn’t use any of your frontline missiles as they were marketed as nuclear capable. It’s why soon after the war, you created a rocket force.

SOM is full generation ahead of Raad in what terms ? just for info. I have stopped fantasizing about western products always superior for a long time. No disrespect just asking genuinely.

Ra'ad cruise missile and its variants utilize an advanced guidance system that includes various methods, such as an Inertial Navigation System (INS), Global Positioning System (GPS), and reportedly Digital Scene Matching Area Correlation (DSMAC) or Imaging Infrared (IIR) seekers for terminal guidance. SOM has them but what else som has to say its better ?
