Initially it all (i.e. TTP) started in the name of religion. Then, as the state started putting limits on their traditional autonomous status, more stakes, especially smuggling and ransom business, became motivating/exploitive factors. Can I ask a question - the last name "Mehsud" - why is this clan ALWAYS involved in Terrorism?? Is it their profession to be fuking terrorists??
The federal government gave at least tens of billions of rupees in additional funds (NFC award) every year to KPK provincial government specifically for development in the merged FATA but most of those funds never made it up to the merged areas (and sadly no one in KPK assembly raises any questions about this).
Even the KPK is the province with the least progress made on national action plan set after the APS terrorist attack. As a result, terrorists started getting hold in those areas. Mehsuds are the largest tribe there.
Not that all Mehsuds or other tribes living there support TTP. As recent reports (of people getting into gun fights against terrorists) have amply proven that common people living there in former FATA are peace loving and want the terrorists away from their areas. It's only the vested interests (local as well as from across the border) that support and fuel the TTP terrorists.
