Those who said that Afghans beat Russians on American doe fail to address 20 years of US in Afghanistan. Afghans outlasted each one of their aggressors.... making this one that if not dealt with correctly... one that can consume and sap all impetus and energy till total collapse.

Historically:

• Afghanistan has always defeated only non-Muslim or European armies or colonial forces. This includes the occupation by Mongols and later Sikhs
• Over 1400 years Afghanistan has always LOST to Muslim armies primarily from Uzbekistan, Iran, and above all from the Delhi Sultanate or Mughal Empire of India with troops from the region what is now Pakistan. Afghanistan was conquered by the Arabs, Persians, the Turkic tribes from Central Asia, the Delhi Sultanate, Timur, Mughals and then again by the Iranians under both Nadir Shah and Ahmed Shah Abdali .
• Recent history has been consistent with the trend. In 1947 even a militarily depleted and weak Pakistan reeling under the effects of Partition, saddled with 10 million refugees stretched thin trying to control its Eastern wing while simultaneously fighting India in Kashmir was able to defeat a well arned Soviet backed Afghanistan in the brief adventure it initiated.

A land locked Afghanistan can only be sustained if its eastern or northern frontier are open for supplies and trade, Historically for 1000 years the Iranians have had the greatest advantage in holding Afghanistan by the throat.
India has long tried to use Afghanistan against Pakistan and the greatest threat was the period immediately after Partition and up to 1980 when Afghanistan was heavily armed by the Soviet Union and had a serious capacity to join an Indian two front war against Pakistan.
To sum up: Pakistan has beaten Afghanistan everytime regardless of the regime in power

afghanistan didn't even exist before 1800s so how could it defeat mongols? mongols had conquered all of present day afghanistan by the way just like alexander did. they had been a buffer state & subsequently a british client state until 1920 & they're still crying about the lands their king willingly gave to them. ranjit beat them so bad that they're crying about punjabis to this day & do takfir on punjabi muslims. russians & american's both conquered them & would've completely colonized them if pakistan hasn't helped them.
