The previous extension was set to expire on April 24.

India and Pakistan have closed their airspaces to each other’s airlines since late April 2025, when tensions between them escalated in the wake of a deadly attack in Indian-occupied Kashmir’s Pahalgam.

On April 24, Pakistan’s top brass had announced a series of measures, including the closure of its airspace to all India-owned or Indian-operated airlines with immediate effect, as it retaliated against New Delhi’s slew of aggressive measures against the country.

In a bid to streamline airport procedures and enhance passenger convenience, Pakistan has moved a step closer to introducing a one-window clearance system at its airports, according to a press release.

A special meeting, led by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, was held to strategize the integration of modern technology in airport security processes.

The meeting, which included key figures such as Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Secretary Defence Lieutenant General (R) Muhammad Ali, outlined plans to install advanced machinery aimed at improving security and efficiency.

The meeting focused on the installation of e-gates, which will be equipped with smart scanners to expedite the clearance process for passengers.

Zong launches Pakistan's first 5G airport kiosk in collaboration with Chinese-backed digital transformation push​

ISLAMABAD, April 22: Pakistan's digital transformation received a major boost as Zong, a leading technology services enterprise, on Tuesday afternoon launched the country's first 5G Customer Facilitation and Sales Kiosk at Islamabad International Airport, marking a key step toward next-generation connectivity infrastructure influenced by China-backed telecom advancements.

The initiative, developed in collaboration with the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), aims to modernise airport services and introduce seamless 5G-enabled digital solutions for international and domestic passengers.

Positioned at a high-traffic transit hub, the kiosk allows travellers immediate access to high-speed connectivity upon arrival, supporting essential services such as real-time communication, digital navigation, ride-hailing applications, and cashless payment systems integrated into Pakistan's expanding digital ecosystem.

Zong officials said the project reflects the company's broader 5G strategy focused on enhanced customer experience, Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration, and expansion of digital infrastructure across key national sectors.

Faheem Durrani, Head of Sales and Distribution at Zong, said airports represent critical digital entry points where instant connectivity is essential for modern travel experiences. He emphasised that the initiative ensures seamless integration into Pakistan's digital network from the moment passengers land.

The Director General of the Pakistan Airports Authority described the project as part of a wider plan to modernise airport infrastructure and align it with global aviation and digital standards. He said the introduction of 5G-enabled facilities would transform airports into smarter, more efficient hubs.
 
Crescent Air Transport

Crescent Air Transport was established in 1949 as a non-scheduled airline by prominent Pakistani entrepreneur Yusuf Haroon. Operating in the early years of Pakistan’s aviation sector, the airline focused on providing chartered and limited scheduled services within the country, while also playing a notable role in transporting pilgrims for Hajj.

Despite its promising start, Crescent Air Transport faced significant operational challenges.

A combination of technical issues, maintenance constraints, and the loss of a substantial portion of its aircraft fleet severely impacted its ability to sustain services.

Parachinar Airport becomes operational after long hiatus​

PESHAWAR: Parachinar Airport in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram District has been reactivated and made operational through the efforts of the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) and the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), after remaining inactive for an extended period.

The renovation and repair of the airport mark a significant step toward restoring air transport in the region.

On April 26, Pakistan Army Aviation conducted trials at Parachinar Airport to assess the quality of construction and upgradation work, as well as runway functionality and overall operational readiness.

Pakistan Army Aviation completed six successful landing and takeoff trials, after which the airport runways were declared compliant with professional standards and safety protocols.

During the trials, the performance of the airport and runways was evaluated under various operational scenarios.

Following the success of these trials, Parachinar Airport’s operational capacity is expected to be further strengthened, significantly enhancing regional connectivity, emergency response, and economic activity in the area.

Last year, officials from the PAA and Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) visited Parachinar Airport to assess its operational feasibility for commercial and humanitarian flights.

The arrival marks a key milestone for the new airline, which aims to enhance regional integration and promote domestic tourism, according to local TV news channel.

South Air is expected to launch its commercial flight operations in June 2026.

The airline's entry into the Pakistani aviation market is anticipated to open a new chapter in regional air travel, fostering economic growth and creating fresh employment opportunities within the industry.

The expansion of regional carriers like South Air will play a crucial role in strengthening trade links and improving accessibility to various parts of the country.

A prestigious ceremony will be held tomorrow at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi to commemorate the first anniversary of the “Maarka-e-Haq” victory, with the country’s top military leadership scheduled to attend the event.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir will be the chief guest at the ceremony. He will be accompanied by Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf.

As part of the commemorative proceedings, tributes will be paid at the Martyrs’ Memorial (Yadgar-e-Shuhada), where wreaths will be laid in honor of the sacrifices rendered by the nation’s martyrs.

Smartly turned-out contingents from the Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air Force, and Pakistan Navy will also present a guard of honor during the ceremony.

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is expected to deliver an important keynote address highlighting the significance of the “Maarka-e-Haq” victory and paying tribute to the armed forces.
