New airline South Air brings first aircraft to Pakistan

May 10, 2026 (MLN): In a significant boost to Pakistan’s aviation sector and regional connectivity, South Air’s first ATR 72-500 aircraft has officially arrived in the country.
The arrival marks a key milestone for the new airline, which aims to enhance regional integration and promote domestic tourism, according to local TV news channel.
South Air is expected to launch its commercial flight operations in June 2026.
The airline's entry into the Pakistani aviation market is anticipated to open a new chapter in regional air travel, fostering economic growth and creating fresh employment opportunities within the industry.
The expansion of regional carriers like South Air will play a crucial role in strengthening trade links and improving accessibility to various parts of the country.
A prestigious ceremony will be held tomorrow at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi to commemorate the first anniversary of the “Maarka-e-Haq” victory, with the country’s top military leadership scheduled to attend the event.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir will be the chief guest at the ceremony. He will be accompanied by Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf.
As part of the commemorative proceedings, tributes will be paid at the Martyrs’ Memorial (Yadgar-e-Shuhada), where wreaths will be laid in honor of the sacrifices rendered by the nation’s martyrs.
Smartly turned-out contingents from the Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air Force, and Pakistan Navy will also present a guard of honor during the ceremony.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is expected to deliver an important keynote address highlighting the significance of the “Maarka-e-Haq” victory and paying tribute to the armed forces.
