Justification is still there for having this much infantry, though it has been increasingly mechanized and motorized.

Smaller, agile formations with long range stand off weapons and mobility, v with drones and helicopters, with SF component in every formation, though equally good idea, required a lot of funding followed by time to test and absorb everything.... Time we might have, funding we don't.
From someone close to me who worked with SFOD and Delta and has just returned from PK - a lot of issues still exist with imparted training and more importantly regular drills. Many of the "sahabs" are not following up on training or not given enough but put in charge of shooting and training ranges so the result is further complicating matters. The trainers lead to better cadre and in this case it seems the reverse is being implemented in some ways due to rotations or otherwise?

Even some weapons being used at some ranges are not properly zeroed(off by 50ft in some cases).

What is good news is that everyone is eager to learn and take instruction well so perhaps all that is needed is for best practices to be introduced again.

Don't know in wt capacity ur friend went to Pakistan but from personal experience these programs run by the u.s or other foreign govts. under the foreign military training n aids program.
The trainers think that the trainees don't know much n our side has learned that n gives them exactly wt they want. As this increases the chances of more courses n a larger aid package.
Our side over the years has learnt to play along, while the motto is " سنو سب کی لیکن کرو اپنی" ie listen to all but do wts best for u..
Baki with do much field experience even by supporting arms they it is PA that should be training others.

Facts in evidence assessable without personal bias. Please try it sometime. Intellectually rewarding.
I guess its the same in the US right. African Americans choose to be slaves and after they were forced to be free, they conspired to have the entire justice system rigged to keep them down as a people.

Its easy to say people can force change when the ones in control have the weapons.

Please elaborate, what "other Pakistanis" are your referring to?
Other Pakistanis ... the ones in prison on frivolous charges of course, who else. All to keep the few greedy and gluttonous haraam khoors in charge.

And yet look at the changes and the inexorable consequences thereof in your example.

There is a lot more than what meets the eye, but that's for another political thread.

Is there scope in the meantime for an intermediate step where force size is maintained, but some existing Light Commando Battalions (LCB) go through SOF tier training and are turned into a special forces support group such as the Royal Marines, thereby having a semi-specialist element in most major formations.

FC baluchistan has its own complement of SF, trained by SSG on the pattern of SSG....they have had years of experience performing I.S, as I am sure u know most of the fighting against BRA/BLA affiliates has been done by FC n their tip of the spear is SF of the FC.plus defending the boarder against the persians n taliban/ttp.
They like the SSG have been continously involved in fighting the enemy n are battle hardened n have gained loads of experience in doi g so
This in addition to the usual deployment of LCB n SSG in baluchistan

Sounds more like a devil may care know it all arrogant mentality that leads to whooping in real scenarios. However in reality it is spread across units and while the SSG(whom he has trained with in official capacity) are held in high regard - regular PA are considered equivalent to US national guard weekend warrior training in some cases.

But, they do want to learn and more importantly - “Sir mein US Army mein bharti ho sakta hoon” :ROFLMAO:

In this case PA personnel had no idea who the fellow was until he revealed it because he is Pakistani origin as well.

A little off-topic but if anyone has AmazonPrime, watch the documentary series called Combat School. Will give you a glimpse of how intensive the training was for these Canadian soldiers going to Afghanistan. Very informative as well for a keyboard warrior on various aspects of platoon tactics and so forth.
