A proposal to assemble Belarus tractors in Pakistan has been discussed at a meeting chaired by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan. The session was attended by representatives of Margalla Heavy Industries Ltd, Heavy Industries Taxila, and Green Corporate Initiatives.

The plan under consideration calls for assembling 57 to 80 horsepower Belarus tractors using completely knocked down kits imported from abroad. According to figures shared at the meeting, demand for such tractors in Pakistan could reach around 2,800 units over the next five years.

Participants also noted that some investors had already shown interest in supporting the initiative, with calls for broader engagement from the private sector.

Stakeholders present described the proposal as an opportunity to expand the availability of farm machinery in the country. They highlighted the potential to strengthen agricultural mechanization, reduce reliance on fully built imports, and encourage industrial cooperation with Belarus.

At the same time, the discussions made clear that the project remains at a preliminary stage. Key questions such as the level of investment, the scale of production, and the timeframe for operations are yet to be settled. No announcement was made regarding when assembly might begin, and further consultations are expected before decisions are finalized.

The proposal comes at a time when Pakistan’s tractor industry continues to experience pressure from fluctuating demand, rising costs, and supply chain constraints. Introducing a new assembly option, participants suggested, could provide an alternative for farmers and contribute to market stability

Pakistan’s automobile market is booming with a 45% surge in sales but why are car prices still skyrocketing? In this episode of On My Radar, Kamran Khan sits down with Suhail Munj, Co-Founder and Chairman of PakWheels, Pakistan’s top digital car trading platform. They discuss:
  • Why Pakistan’s car sales are hitting record highs
  • How falling interest rates and rising auto financing are driving the market
  • The influx of luxury SUVs vs. the struggle to afford small family cars
  • “Own money” premiums, price hikes, and policy issues fueling inequality
Will Pakistan’s auto industry finally bring affordable, safe cars to the middle class or remain a playground for the elite?

Bro what surge? Sure the reason people are owning more cars is because banks have made car finance more accessible for certain salaried worker brackets - but still the price of cars in Pakistan is stupid.

28 Lakh for this box? Not even new, not even sticker price, this is the price for a used 2023 Alto...

I mean look at it... That is a face for radio! And then there is the interior:
1759262192996.png
Feels like cheap plastic. Not much innovation from the old interior of the VXR - the hood release handle is still located in that dumb location near the footwell - and is made of cheap ABS plastic.

AC: The compressor for the AC is basically stock from the old 2008 Alto VXR,

Engine: the engine is still the stock non turbocharged 660cc F type engine that has been used in the Jimny and VXR in 2005, 660CC in 2025? At least upgrade it to the 796cc engine for god's sake or offer the turbocharged 660 as used in the Jimny in 2010 onwards.

Breaks: Same cheap quality suzuki Garbage - anyone remember the Suzuki Liana?

Safety features: 3 point seatbelt... We are in 2025 and airbags are still not offered in entry level vehicles in Pakistan... WOW!

Stock in car entertainment system is rubbish, most buyers swap it out pretty much straight away. Like it's VXR predecessor it suffers from rubbish quality Suzuki fuel pumps that give up the ghost in a few months due to leaded fuel.

The quality of assembly feels really poor, if you have ever had the displeasure of driving one of these, it feels like a soapbox on wheels, it creaks (brand new car creaking), I'd rather drive a Suzuki FX.

This is the entry level brand new car most working Pakistanis may be able to purchase via finance.

35 Lakh sticker price for this nonsense?

Absolute garbage.

How much does a 5 year old camry cost?
Do you get the 2.5 hybrid?
Bro if you want a Camry you can book a brand new one from Toyota Capital Motors or Toyota Central Motors (Karachi) for around 3 crore give or take. If you want to buy a used one, you can try your luck on Pakwheels:

Take a trusted mechanic with you when you go for test drive.

Edit: yes 2.5L hybrid is available in Pakistan.

There is a big surge of Chinese automobiles this year and that is only going to grow leaving Japanese makers in the dust. Just wait few more years and we will be having a different conversation. Cars in Pakistan would be more modern and futuristic and cheaper compared to the West courtesy of China and it is highly likely they will be made here in Pakistan too.

Pakistan's first home made car brand - short lived :(
I remember it. The company that made it was trying to sell a pickup also. Company went under way too quickly.

Recently same concept has again been launched with assembly of knock down kits from China. United Bravo is an example but I think it also has done poorly and withdrawn from market. These cars are just too cheap , plasticky and unreliable to be taken seriously by consumers who pay tons of money for a car and then expect to use it for 40 years.

Pakistan is truly the land where a car is driven until it finally dies on the road.

Sir Camry, Camry hai... Ask anyone who ever owned an O.G Toyota Crown...
