• Office of CJCSC to be abolished
• Establishing a Commander of National Strategic Command position
• President to appoint army, naval, air chiefs on advice of premier
• Life-long constitutional protection to be provided to 5-star rank officers

Some important points...

-> The CJCSC post will be abolished from 27 November 2025, which coincides with the current CJCSC’s retirement date.

-> General Sahir Shamshad Mirza will be the last CJCSC as the COAS will then automatically hold the title of CDF, making him the supreme commander of all three services (Army, Navy, and Air Force). More centralized command led by the Army chief all alone.

-> The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) position will always be held by the serving Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

-> All joint-military coordination powers will be merged under the CDF, permanently led by the Army.

Well, I would only disagree with your last paragraph about Mr Imran Khan. He was just the latest failed experiment from GHQ which rebounded badly on both the govt department and Pakistan. The last 3 months have been quite interesting for observers as they witnessed PTI, Taliban and TLP projects all blowing up in the face of the Faujis, some of these projects had been going on for 20 plus years.

Faujis are feeling very insecure hence these attempts to further mutilate the Constitution and make the army even more uber powerful.

I believe Pakistan will be better off modifying the Constitution to reflect the real power balance in Pak polity. It may seem distasteful at the beginning, but it will be for the greater good.

IMHO, the entire chaos starts because the COAS invariably seeks a second term in office (with a desire to serve the country as long as possible) and for that, he needs the consent of the PM. In turn, he needs a pliable PM, so he is forced to intervene in politics. Therefore, what is needed and is certainly doable is to make the Pak military a completely autonomous institution. So that neither the COAS nor the PM have either any opportunity or need to intervene in each other's domain.

1. The COAS can be made the Chief of Defence Staff in charge of not only the three forces but also paramilitary forces and the intelligence agencies. A committee under the CDS can be responsible for all recruitment, appointments and promotions in the three services.

2. A fixed share of the budget should be assured to the Armed Forces (including intel and paramilitary) and they can spend it without civilian oversight.

3. The paramilitary forces and their deployment in Pakistan Azaad Kashmir, Balochistan and KPK should be controlled by the CDS.

4. The CDS should decide how many 5-year terms he wants to serve as the CDS.

In return for this, the Fauj must stop interfering in civilian matters and politics.
