Pakistan Constitutional Amendments:

Want to hear a further joke?

The PM was in Baku. But our uniformed overlords wanted to get this done so quick they are calling cabinet meetings just to approve this, while the PM is attending virtually.

Trump kay sath ab kafi chilling hai, just call yourself a CMLA and be done with it. Trump will actually like it more.

They underestimates how docile the people are. Otherwise he would have made himself emperor by now.

Well then they should get out of this godforsaken place. If you would have asked me this question 10 years ago, I would have never imagined I'd be saying this.

Didn't you listen Faisal Wapda said , get ready for 28th amendment. 28th will be for life emperor. Only qualification for PM of Pakistan will be , a person should be COAS or Field marshal. Tenure will a till the day of judgement.

The proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment in Pakistan, currently under discussion, reportedly includes provisions that critics argue would formalize the military's role in governance and expand the powers of Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir. The government, however, insists the changes are for long-term stability and will not endanger democracy.
Key reported proposals of the amendment include:
  • Institutionalizing the Field Marshal Rank: Granting constitutional recognition and legal standing to the rank of Field Marshal, a title currently without formal legal basis, potentially securing and extending General Munir's tenure beyond his scheduled retirement date in November 2025.
  • Altering Military Command Structure: Amending Article 243 of the Constitution, which currently states that the federal government has command of the armed forces, to potentially transfer some of that authority to the new office of the Field Marshal.
  • Expanding Appointment Powers: Empowering the Field Marshal to appoint the chiefs of the army, air force, navy, and the ISI intelligence agency.
  • Granting Legal Immunity: Providing immunity to the Field Marshal from legal or political challenges.
  • Centralizing Federal Power: Reversing parts of the 18th Amendment (2010) by transferring control of ministries like education and population welfare from the provinces back to the federal government.
  • Modifying Provincial Funding: Reducing the share of provinces in federal resources and removing the constitutional protection for their share under the National Finance Commission (NFC) during economic crises.
  • Judicial System Changes: Creating a new system of constitutional courts and restoring executive magistrates at the district level, moves that some experts warn could curtail judicial independence and make the judiciary more susceptible to political pressure.
  • Streamlining Appointments: Streamlining the process for appointing the Chief Election Commissioner to prevent delays.

Bughz-e-Imrani main apni gardan katwa bethen gay. It ain't even bughz-e-Imrani now, it's a plan old power grab. Can't wait to see the day all of these enablers get to face the music.

It makes me wonder if there is going to be any resistance from the Navy or Airforce because if this continues its only a matter of time before he starts purging officers to install loyalists and that would be the end any competency those services might have

My concern is that if Asim Munir leaves office for health or other reasons, his replacement will likely hold onto the same powers or seek to reassert them, since the precedent has already been set.

@HAIDER sb

I believe Pakistan will be better off modifying the Constitution to reflect the real power balance in Pak polity. It may seem distasteful at the beginning, but it will be for the greater good.

IMHO, the entire chaos starts because the COAS invariably seeks a second term in office (with a desire to serve the country as long as possible) and for that, he needs the consent of the PM. In turn, he needs a pliable PM, so he is forced to intervene in politics. Therefore, what is needed and is certainly doable is to make the Pak military a completely autonomous institution. So that neither the COAS nor the PM have either any opportunity or need to intervene in each other's domain.

1. The COAS can be made the Chief of Defence Staff in charge of not only the three forces but also paramilitary forces and the intelligence agencies. A committee under the CDS can be responsible for all recruitment, appointments and promotions in the three services.

2. A fixed share of the budget should be assured to the Armed Forces (including intel and paramilitary) and they can spend it without civilian oversight.

3. The paramilitary forces and theiri deployment in Pakistan Azaad Kashmir, Balochistan and KPK should be controlled by the CDS.

4. The CDS should decide how many 5-year terms he wants to serve as the CDS.

In return for this, the Fauj must stop interfering in civilian matters and politics.

They are going to be on the chopping block soon they had a purpose of being puppets and they willingly gave up that purpose so there is no reason to keep them around.
