Ali Tareen apologises to PSL management … then tears up notice, and the internet can’t look away

If PSL 11 ever needs a trailer, X has already storyboarded it.

It was an ordinary Thursday night, until it wasn’t. Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen decided to post a video on X, ‘apologising’ to the Pakistan Super League management, but with a twist that would make even the most seasoned soap opera writers proud.

Holding what appeared to be the PSL’s legal notice to his franchise, Tareen spoke solemnly about “wanting to apologise” before dramatically tearing up the letter on camera. Cue background music, camera zoom, collective gasp.

For those who missed the build-up, tensions had been simmering for months. In March, he even slammed the PSL for letting the ‘same middle-aged dude’ helm its official anthem year after year.

After repeatedly criticising the PCB and PSL for “mediocrity” and “stagnation”, Tareen was issued a legal notice by the league, threatening the suspension of his franchise and his future as a team owner. But instead of a settlement, we got a cinematic Ali Tareen moment that no one saw coming.

Naturally, the internet lit up with memes.

One of the first reactions set the tone with a simple verdict.

Becomes the fifth Pakistani to achieve this milestone

Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam added another major milestone to his career on Saturday, becoming the fifth Pakistani cricketer to score 15,000 runs in international cricket.

Babar reached the landmark during the third and final ODI against South Africa at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad. The 31-year-old achieved the feat when he took a single off Bjorn Fortuin to move to 23, completing 15,000 runs in his 370th international innings.

With this achievement, Babar joins an elite list of Pakistan’s highest run-scorers, which includes Inzamam-ul-Haq, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf and Javed Miandad.

Pakistan’s top international run-scorers:

  1. Inzamam-ul-Haq – 20,541 runs (547 innings)
  2. Younis Khan – 17,790 runs (491 innings)
  3. Mohammad Yousuf – 17,134 runs (426 innings)
  4. Javed Miandad – 16,213 runs (407 innings)
  5. Babar Azam – 15,004 runs (370 innings)
6–10 (next most): Saeed Anwar, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hafeez, Misbah-ul-Haq, Saleem Malik (based on historical tallies)

Babar, however, could not convert his start into a big knock and was run out for 27 off 32 balls, hitting five fours.

Across formats, the former Pakistan captain has now scored more than 4,366 runs in Tests, 4,302 in T20Is and over 6,330 in ODIs. His international career includes 31 centuries and 104 half-centuries.

Babar’s consistency and high-class performances over the years have cemented his place among the world’s top modern batters.

Babar Azam is back, and he’s arrived with a bang — a 100-run bang. The cricketer made his 20th ODI century during a match against Sri Lanka, after over 800 days and 83 international innings.

He’s now on the list of quickest to 20th ODI century, right there after South Africa’s Hashim Amla and India’s Virat Kohli. He’s also equalled Saeed Anwar in the most centuries for Pakistan.

His fans were, understandably, over the moon, especially after the drought they’d suffered.

Pakistan’s key batsman Babar Azam has attributed his success to hard work and unwavering self-belief, saying his efforts have finally been rewarded.

Speaking after Pakistan’s win at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Azam said, “Despite challenges, I continued to work hard and maintained my confidence. Allah has rewarded me for my efforts.” He credited fans for their support, saying it “gave me the motivation and confidence during difficult times”.

Azam admitted he had struggled to convert good starts into big scores in the past but was pleased to have played a significant innings in line with the team’s target. “Scoring a century after a long time has significantly boosted my confidence,” he said, while also thanking coaches Shahid Aslam and Mansoor Rana for their guidance.
