Bad governance an corruption has destroyed almost everything in Pakistan.

Look what these thieves did to funds for hockey and other sports including football.

Without good and proper governance, nothing will improve.

We have tiny little island nations with higher rankings in football!

I pray that the resilience and effort that brought this win for Pakistan football remains and grows within the people.

Playing south asian states won't take you anywhere. You have to get out of south asian federations, not just for soccer but all sports.

Playing against central and west asian states on the regular is the only way forward. You're going to lose a lot, but it's the only way to progress.

The tournament could feature several strong Asian teams, providing valuable preparation ahead of the SAFF Championship.

Pakistan government should invest $300-500 billion or high (USD) in developing our own soccer players like Cristiano Ronaldo - just take out loans, talk to the IMF, high-interests do whatever it takes for a poor country!

They did the same with Boxing - Pakistan in the 80's, 90's and even early 00's had a huge footprint in the sport.

Not just competitors at the amateur level, but as referee's, governing body officials, commission members, heck even photo journalists.

Having a presence in a sport is not just about the athletes but everything else that goes into it.

As other mentioned, due to the corruption and apathy of official hierarchies (just look at the very public debacle of PFF's behaviour over the last decade), there is little chance of this despite the raw talent possibly being available.

Someone mentioned boxing. Bang on the mark.

Now, there is far greater chance of diaspora Pakistanis reaching global heights in boxing than for the Pakistanis actually donning Pakistani colours.

I would go so far as to say, you will see a Pakistani represent England at the world cup before you see Pakistan in the world cup. Why is this? Because institutional racism is actually EASIER to overcome than institutional corruption.
