Have to laugh at the hypocrisy from Indian money makers that continues to humiliate the victims of Pahalgam that they supposedly gaf about.

Apparently, blood and water cannot flow together, but blood is allowed on a an AstroTurf pitch.

If you wish to boycott us for ideological and political purposes, do it properly, and forfeit all sports fixtures against Pakistani teams.

KARACHI: Pakistan hockey officials and team captain Ammad Shakeel Butt have welcomed reports from India suggesting their national team will be allowed to compete in the upcoming Asia Cup, but stressed that any participation will hinge on approval from Islamabad.

Indian media, citing sports ministry sources, reported that Pakistan's hockey team will face no hurdles in travelling to India for the tournament, scheduled in Rajgir, Bihar from August 29 to September 7.

According to the Press Trust of India, the Indian sports ministry has already secured permissions from both the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of External Affairs, Telecom Asia Sport (www.telecomasia.net) learnt on Friday.

The Asia Cup is a crucial event for Pakistan hockey, serving as a qualifying tournament for next year's World Cup to be co-hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands.

Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Secretary Rana Mujahid struck a cautiously optimistic note when speaking to Telecom Asia Sport. "We have to wait and see to ascertain the credibility, but surely these are positive developments," Mujahid said. "However, let me make it clearour participation will depend on clearance from the government."

Given this context, PHF officials had already written to the Asian Hockey Federation and the International Hockey Federation, seeking guarantees that players would receive the necessary visas not only for the Asia Cup but also for the FIH Junior World Cup, which India's Tamil Nadu state will host in November.

Pakistan head coach Tahir Zaman said he was encouraged by the developments.

"This is good news for not only Pakistan hockey but also for the international game," Zaman told Telecom Asia Sport. "Our participation will still depend on government clearance, and we look forward to that."

Zaman added that players have been instructed to stay ready despite the uncertainty. "We are planning to hold a preparation camp for the Asia Cup, and even at this stage, players have been told to keep working on their fitness at home."

Team captain Ammad Shakeel Butt also welcomed the reports and expressed hope that sporting ties between the two nations could begin to improve.

"We welcome this and hope to get ready for the event as and when we get the permission," Butt said. Last month, he publicly appealed for the restoration of sporting ties between India and Pakistan.

Disgraceful behaviour from Modi. Pakistan was supposed to be isolated following Pahalgam as justice for the victims and their widows. Yet, here we are a couple of months later. Pakistan is unpunished, the perpetrators of Pahalgam are roaming freely, and Modi is un-isolating Pakistan.

Indian guests are most welcome to provide an explanation. Were any of Modi's actions actually related to "justice" for the Pahalgam events? Or did he have some other motive?

Pakistan’s unbeaten run in the Under-18 Asia Hockey Cup continued on Friday as they edged past Malaysia in a thrilling semi-final, winning 4-3 in a penalty shootout after a dramatic 3-3 draw in regulation time. They will now face Japan in the final on Sunday at the Dazhou National Hockey Training Center.

In an electrifying contest, Pakistan started strong, earning a penalty corner in just the fifth minute. Awan Abdullah made no mistake, converting it to give Pakistan an early lead. They doubled the advantage with another penalty corner before half-time, heading into the break with a 2-0 cushion.

Malaysia, however, mounted a spirited comeback. They pulled one back shortly after the restart and went on to score two more goals in quick succession, taking the lead for the first time in the match.

Pakistan clawed their way back into the contest with a determined performance. Shahbaz Hassan scored his second of the evening, bringing the scores level at 3-3.

With the game tied, the match moved into a penalty shootout. Pakistan held their nerve, with Ghulam Mustafa emerging as the hero. The young goalkeeper made two crucial saves to seal a 4-3 victory. Earlier, Japan beat Bangladesh 6-4 in the second semi-final to book their spot in the title clash.

Pakistan’s road to the final has been marked by dominant performances. They began their campaign with a resounding 8-0 victory over Hong Kong, followed by a 9-0 rout of Sri Lanka. A 6-3 win over Bangladesh and a narrow 2-1 triumph against hosts China rounded off their flawless group stage.

Pakistan held India to a thrilling 3-3 draw in their third group-stage match of the Sultan of Johor Cup 2025 at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium on Tuesday, in a contest that showcased the best of Asian hockey and mutual respect between the arch-rivals.

Pakistan captain Hannan Shahid opened the scoring in the fifth minute, calmly converting a penalty stroke to give his side an early lead. The Green Shirts continued to dominate the opening quarter with quick passing and sharp counterattacks, earning another penalty corner in the 10th minute but failing to capitalise.

India pressed hard for an equaliser but were denied by Pakistan’s organised defence. The second quarter saw India reduced to 10 men when Anmol Ekka received a yellow card, yet Pakistan could not add to their lead despite the advantage.

The third quarter brought renewed energy as Sufyan Khan converted a penalty corner in the 39th minute to make it 2-0 for Pakistan. However, India fought back fiercely. Araijeet Singh Hundal converted a penalty stroke in the 43rd minute, followed by goals from Sourabh Anand Kushwaha (47’) and Manmeet Singh (53’), giving India the lead for the first time.

Pakistan refused to give up, and in the 55th minute, Sufyan Khan scored his second goal from another penalty corner to level the match 3-3. Both teams pushed hard in the dying minutes but had to settle for a draw.

The fiercely contested fixture ended on a positive note as Indian and Pakistani players shook hands after the final whistle, a gesture of sportsmanship following the recent cricketing tensions between the two nations.

India remain unbeaten in the tournament and will face Australia next, while Pakistan continue their campaign seeking a semifinal spot.

Pakistan, India juniors show sportsmanship spirit at Sultan of Johor Cup

Setting aside the recent handshake controversy from the cricket field, Pakistan and India’s junior hockey teams displayed exemplary sportsmanship during their Sultan of Johor Cup match on Tuesday.

The high-voltage encounter between the two arch-rivals ended in a 3-3 draw, with Pakistan’s goals coming from Sufyan Khan (2) and Hannan Shahid (1).

Before the start of the match, players from both sides lined up for their national anthems and greeted each other with traditional high-fives, a gesture that stood in stark contrast to the tensions seen in recent cricket encounters between the two nations.

In the 2025 Asia Cup and ICC Women’s World Cup, Indian players had drawn criticism for refusing to shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts, a move widely viewed as unsporting and politically motivated.

Reports at the time suggested that the Indian men’s cricket team had acted on directions from New Delhi, with captain Suryakumar Yadav declining to shake hands with Pakistan’s skipper after the Asia Cup match on September 14 in the UAE.

The gesture was repeated during their subsequent meetings on September 21 and 28, and later mirrored in the women’s tournament in Colombo on October 5.

However, on Tuesday in Johor Bahru, junior hockey players from both countries set a refreshing example of mutual respect and sportsmanship, effectively putting an end to the handshake row that had marred cricket ties between the two sides.
