Chinese are killing it in virtually all sectorsAre we talking military or other tech? This is a vast topic like if we’re talking cars Chinese are killing it but then there’s a lot of other tech China is still well behind
We’re talking about a country that 25 years ago wasn’t even in the discussion so it’s still very impressive
militarily Americans have stuff that is unparalleled. USA could take on the whole world and may still defend itself.
I speak as someone with expensive niche hobbies.
There are very few industries left untouched by Chinese technological and industrial domination.
Cars, audiophile gear (speaking as a collector of ultra high-end headphones and audio gear), LCD TVs, and consumer goods of all types
On an industrial level, China dwarfs everyone
From a military perspective, the only major field China is currently behind Russia is in
1) Submarine technology
2) Gas turbine metallurgy, for making turbine blades, discs, etc
The latter has no substitute for experience. Though the methods are widely known since the 1970s, the precise recipe from a process control perspective is a closely guarded commercial and state secret. They took decades and billions to master. China has almost caught up in this field. And will use other means at its disposal to not only catch up but lead. Such as computational materials science coupled with machine learning. This is a field they're world masters at.
In everything else, Chinese technology and industrial muscle dwarfs that of Russia's.
I, too used to be disillusioned with American technological prowess. Then I learnt it's all just an illusion. China is on parity with US in virtually all fields, and ahead of many of them. In fields they're behind in, such as semiconductor production technologies, they're not behind by much. They have 5nm chips now (hilariously, it's made by a car company, Nio), not 2/3nm of the US. But military technology rarely uses anything smaller than 50nm for sake of reliability. A huwaei Phone does fine with a 7nm chip vs an iPhone 16s 3nm. In military applications, there's no difference what so ever.
China leads the US in most STEM fields, with the exception of life sciences (and they're catching up fast). And absoloutly dwarfs it industrially.
Chinese shipbuilding capacity is between 350-500 times that of the US. During peace times... CHina used more concrete in 10 years than the Anglo-Saxon world in over 100...
