Sharif, the Pakistani military spokesperson, said the country’s air force shot down five Indian jets in retaliation for the strikes. There was no immediate comment from India about Pakistan’s claim.

Debris from one plane was scattered across one village, including in a school and a mosque compound, according to police and residents. Firefighters struggled for hours to douse the resulting blazes.

“There was a huge fire in the sky. Then we heard several blasts also,” said Mohammed Yousuf Dar, a resident of Wuyan village in India-controlled Kashmir.

Another aircraft fell in an open field in Bhardha Kalan village. Resident Sachin Kumar told The Associated Press he heard massive blasts and saw a huge ball of fire.

Kumar said he and several others rushed to the scene, where they saw Indian soldiers carry away the pilots.

A third aircraft crashed in a farm field in Punjab, a police officer told the AP, speaking on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

If you see overall indian social media and their mainstream media. India is extremely satisfied on this operation. They are happiest since 1971. Everyone is praising indian govt, especially modi is total hero right now.

Targeting 9 sites deep inside mainland Pakistan and Pakistani cities and killing Pakistani citizens with missile strikes is absolutely a new standard they have set. We are only busy in showing the jets we downed. PAF showed our shameless leadership that they can kick some real ass. But gutless govt and shameless ministers saying that our retaliation is already done. (it means they are ready to accept this national humiliation by not responding)

Pakistan had option to not respond, if we had intercepted all of their missiles and none of Pakistani city would have been struck. But now literally there is no other option but to retaliate if we really care about pride, honor and deterrance.

If they chicken out now, the Army will lose support of any last remaining people too, who had any respect left for them. I hope they realize this and rethink their "zimme daar riasat" narrative.

Victory for Pakistan is victory for whole muslim world, defeat of Pakistan is defeat of whole muslim world.
We receive blow after blow in last decades and centuries, so by its own efforts and sacrifices Pakistan managed to elevate itself above punching bag status for neighbors, now is matter of political will and nation determination how to respond to this agression or it will not and by that lose hard earned strong and firm military deterence.
