Such a large waste of resources to use one missile in this day and age. 2 jets, 2 pilots and 1 weapon system operator to do what one single Babur or read or storm shadow can do.

All this from the mirages has to be done with line of sight aswell as they need to be guided to the target and the ew jamming/self defence capabilities are limited compared to jF17/f16/j10ce etc. it’s a shame that PAF cannot afford to replace/retire them now.

PAF has F-7 in service. It's short range AAM and affiliated radar can be considered obsolete and waste of resources to maintain and fly a squadron. Yet its in service and offers lesser capability than Mirage.

With Mirages, its another option available for long range strike. A mix and match of strike package within JFT or stand alone with F-16/J-10 cover. This also helps to neutralize multiple targets when JFT squadrons are targeting tier-1 targets, Mirages can be sent for tier-2 targets. There is an inventory of H-2 and H-4 that will need to be expended at some stage.

PAF had jammed S-400 radar and took it out. So there will be a definite plan against IN radar and SAMs. CIWS is hard kill system which poses threat as last line of defence.

For S-400, we used to hear it will be guarded by plethora of lines of defense like Shoulder based SAM, short range SAM, medium range SAMs, and AAA guns. PAF by-passed all these rings of AD and struck S-400 radar.

Sir AFAIK most indian navy ships still have old CIWS. Type 1130 or 730 is way advance and good even against Super sonic Ashm. Ships like kolkata class still have ak630 which is weak in comparison to type 730 let alone type 1130 found in Type 054A. Chinese have live tested it against Super sonic missiles. 630 however will have challenge against Ashm.

Cm802/exocet are both primarily INS guided afaik so they will not require communication with aircraft. CIWS is not the primary defensive method against AShMs. IN has plenty of systems like barak 8 that pose significant threat to any attack. This means any attack must be TOT attack with several waves and large ammounts of AWACs and aireal refuelling coverage. This will be very hard if main IN CSG requires our aircraft to go 200km+ from karachi for example

Newer missile have better algorithms against ECM/EW with better ECCM, however back up guidance (SATCOM, data link inputs etc) is beneficial. INS has GNSS (used for correction) which can be jammed. Whenever a probability of jamming (whether 10%) comes up for a system, it requires minimization to zero or backups.

This thing have two angles.
1. They are about to take action against pakistan and want no disturbance on other end.
2. After our Joint cheif visit of Bangladesh they feeling insecurity at that end.

It could also be that they really are under some regional pressure and these are just exercises. For the Western NOTAM, given that though it is spread over 3 months, there are only 6 exercise days where it takes effect with an avergae gap of 2 weeks between each exercise day - they may want to get Tejas some form operational readiness - in case they get pinned down on multiple fronts. What do you think?
