Apart from what you stated, US indirect backing India to provoke Pakistan is mainly because of direct involvement of Israel. Israel wanted to test application of it's doctrine and live evaluation of weapon systems in and around non-arab environment. Israel achieved preliminary goal by taking part in this Indo-Pak drama. I foresee further involvement in near future. The end goal is to annul Pakistan status as nuclear state.
