It just means either S-400 was effective in keeping PAF fighters confined to its own airspace and possibly surviving (but needing to relocate) so India wants to now buy another.

Or it could mean India feels the current number is insufficient and it’s ordered a new one plus spares for upkeep or repair.

Plus a bigger issue is upcoming PAF fifth gen fighters with no counter pick coming for another 50-60 years in IAF.

Russia is out of fifth gen game. India is atleast half a century away from indigenous fifth gen fighter and no ally is having a project running.

Only option left is to layer and beef up air defence and deploy lots of artillery and missiles.

Likely, even S-500 deal will show up sooner than later.

Good one. One of the subsequent threads below it has actually highlighted (without knowing it) one of the main reasons why Indians ran helter and skelter for a ceasefire.

It wasn't just about the S400. It's one system after all. You don't go for a ceasefire due to neutralization of just one system....

That is some serious turbulence. Once hit a pocket flying over Jeddah, the plane must have free fallen several seconds (felt like an eternity) before regaining control and the whole frame shuddered...

The person next to me projectile vomited all across the isle. One of the cabin crew got thrown up into the air and slammed down breaking her wrist...I wish no one has to go through something like that in their lives.

Can it really be taken as a measure of effectiveness when there really is no other system comparable in terms of range and class to the S-400 available to India? Apart from the S-400 what other long range SAMs are available to them? The Barak and Akash are not really comparable to S400, so even if the S400 is less than ideal, they really don't have any other option but to order more to fill that LR SAM requirement.

There is some sense to this. I think the truth lies somewhere in between what few sensible Indians and Pakistanis are saying.

50-60 years for 5th gen is a bit stretch. India certainly has few options but those might require it to be relegated in the geopolitical order - not that it is faring well right now. The safest bet is more Rafales. Su-57 would make sense but it doesn't seem to me that Russia has the production capacity for both itself and the export customers. Its no F-35 or F-22 but in South Asian air environment it might prove relevant as opposing force to J-35. Worst comes to worst, F-35, which would mean India act as the American policeman.

I am just wondering, if Russia hasn't completely fulfilled S-400 deliveries from 2019, how can India expect it to deliver more? Considering that Russia is at war wouldn't it want to reserve production of such systems for itself?

My final thought is: One of the major lessons from 2025 is that both sides need to beef up their air defence.

DO NOT feel any empathy or humanity towards indians. They are evil, racist genocidal maniacs. The time for civility with indians is over. If they suffer or die, nothing to do with us. If the indian plane crashes, not our problem or concern. They CANNOT use our airspace.

Good decision by Pakistan not to let them use our airspace.
