Pakistan International Arlines (PIA) : News / Updates

Nope. Won't take typical Pakistani uneducated wailing as an argument. Listen to him again and let me know what's wrong with his statement.
What’s wrong here is that there are multiple statements from different sources. Thus, no one knows for sure how much PIA is actually sold & bought for:

@PakFactor

Straddled the taxpayers with more bad debt.

There is no other alternative. The same was the case with Air India.

Regards

Many individuals acquired liabilities along with assets and turned companies around AirAsia by Tony is one example. But the question remains for this government: why did it extend pensions, pay packages, and guarantees to keep those jobs, while burdening taxpayers with this cost?

Also, govt will take back employees' pay and pension after 1 year.

Any monopoly is bad.
In the context of this thread: I don't think the Arif Habib group, which has committed Rs. 135 billion to purchase PIA, is going to tolerate a minor stakeholder, even if FFC/Military, to have a major 'say' in the affairs. It is good that FFC is involved.
The PIA takeover by a private company has the blessing of the military and more drastic measures are coming up under the protective umbrella of the recently passed 27th Amendment. I think it is going to be 'Perform or Perish'

I personally wants PIA to be owned by government and be the national carrier, something to be proud off but the incompetence, mismanagement, nepotism destroyed the airline so the only option left was to privatise it. Cannot believe they only have 18 carriers available and Habib Group is saying they will increase it to 60+ carriers in 4 years will be a big achievement. PIA can be profitable, just from the UK alone we can easily have daily flights, the business is available.

Theft of century

PIA has a fleet of 30 commercial jets

Boeing 777-300ER - 4 planes , 6 on Order
$375 million per plane = 10x$375 million = 3.7 Bilion USD

Boeing 777-200LR - 2 Planes
$296 million per plane = 2 X$296 million = 592,Million USD

Boeing 777-200ER - 6 Planes
$261 million per plane = 6 X $261 million = 1.5 Billion USD

Airbus A320-200 - 17 Planes
$100 million per plane = 17 X$100 million = 1.7 Billion USD

ATR 42-500 - 3 Planes
$9 million per plane = 3 X $9 Million = $9 million USD

Value of Fleet = $7.5 Billion USD
Value of Luxury Hotels = 5 Billion USD

Pakistani Rupee Value
3,361,934,400,000

3.3 Trillion Rupee or 3.3 Kharab Rupee

30 planes and 4-5 Luxury Hotels bought for only price of "1" plane

While the debt is pushed into
  • Pakistani People's electricity bills
  • Petrol Bill
  • Pension reduction
You see it is the poor people of Pakistan who are paying debt of the planes the people who bought the planes got 29 planes free !!! and no debt on their head

Theft of century by CHOOR of century
Ridiculous, made up numbers. Your 777-200s will fetch between $3.5 to $13 million a pop. That's the going rate for aircraft of similar age in good condition. Most of yours are grounded. Same deal with the rest. The 6 on order have not been paid for since you never had the money. The new owners will now decide whether to buy or not

The "$100 million" A320s somehow appreciated almost 8 times with years of use after PIA originally bought them for $13 million a piece. But the best value for money are those A320s that PIA doesn't own and only has on lease that you want $100 million per aircraft for.

The Hotels were not sold and will remain with the government.

Loot sale? How so? Please back it up.

From a business point of view its not worth to buy PIA, the amount of issues need sorting out is not worth it. Am glad Habib Group wants to turn things around, even selling it for peanuts is worth it. Atleast we will have full running airline, from 16 aircrafts to 60+ will need more employees, which means more jobs, and tax for the government, hopefully debt will be paid off aswell.

I personally won't be travelling in new owner airline , most like the new owner will sell 30 planes and make a nice juicy 9 billion Dollar profit

Nice juicy 9 Billion Dollar profit , this will get distributed into his partners most like some Army dictator General / Politician Tola will collect their money overseas after sale of 30 planes

Or one of their children will get 200 million deposited in their account as investor

You go to a small shop in Pakistan they sell item worth $50 for $150

And our Choor Fauj , Government and Judges , sell the 10 billion USD airline for 150 Million USD and claim

We did you a favor, people of Pakistan , you pay the debt , and we will collect the "PROFIT " from sale of planes

KUTTE

KHOON CHOOS , FAUJ

Pakistani will be left to travel on Emarati airline

Habib owners are saying they will increase the fleet to 60+ planes in 4 years time. Which will be similar level as Egyptian airlines.

Privatisation Commission recommends approval of Arif Habib consortium’s bid for PIA stake

  • Development comes after Pakistan government concluded on Tuesday sale of 75% stake in national carrier for Rs135 billion
BR Web Desk
December 24, 2025

The Privatisation Commission Board (PC Board) on Wednesday recommended the bid offer - Rs135 billion for 75% stake in the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) - submitted by the Arif Habib consortium for consideration and approval by the Cabinet Committee on Privatisation, an official statement stated.

The development comes after Pakistan government concluded on Tuesday the sale of a 75% stake in its national carrier for Rs135 billion, giving an end to years of stalled efforts to privatise the loss-making airline.

Arif Habib consortium bought the managing stake in the national carrier. The consortium is comprised of Arif Habib Corporation Limited, Fatima Fertilizer Company Limited, City Schools (Private) Limited, and Lake City Holdings (Private) Limited.

Pakistan government will get Rs10 billion in cash out of Rs135 billion. The rest of the amount will be invested in the PIA.

The overall valuation of the PIA is Rs180 billion, as the government will receive another Rs45 billion after selling the remaining 25% shares.

“The Privatisation Commission Board, in its 246th meeting held today [Wednesday] under the chairmanship of Mr Muhammad Ali, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Privatisation and Chairman, Privatisation Commission, recommended the bid offer submitted by the Arif Habib Consortium for consideration and approval by the Cabinet Committee on Privatisation.

“The Board noted with satisfaction the bid amount of Rs135 billion, received against the reference price of Rs100 billion, for 75% stake of PIA,” the statement read.
